How so? I've cared so little about the Golden ordeal, I've read nothing on it. Got a good summary?

Pearl and Dooley were as embarrassing as anything to me.

Wait a **** eatin' grin minute. Paying coaches not to coach. That makes about as much sense as taking your cousin to 2nd chance prom.

Golden was released, allowed to transfer, mind you, not expelled from the University on the 7th, I believe.

An unnamed "source" from UT said that it was related to academics, repeated acts of plagiarism.

On the 9th, Jenny Wright tried to resign her position as Director of SJA(Student Judicial Affairs)...Much has been made of her...ahem...job title.

Shortly there after the story broke, Hyams announces that Wright has been fired for failure to cooperate with the investigation. He also announces that they are investigating whether she had inappropriate relations with student athleteS

He would eventually name Trae Golden, as one of the athletes. He then would name Kenny Hall who has (conveniently enough) graduated. He also said at the time that there was one yet to be identified football player.

This morning, online, a story ran on the Knox News website, regarding the positive reviews Ms. Wright had gotten. Buried in that story was a line about Vice Chancellor Tim Rogers telling his co-workers that he was going to retire...get this...LAST WEEK. He could not be reached for comment at his home or office.

Later in the day, on Sport's Talk, lol...Jimmy says there is not much new to report in regards to the story, though he ups the ante, to two more basketball players and maybe more than one football player. He also mentions Tim Rogers and says that the people he talked to, said that his retirement had been in the works for sometime, lmao. Is that since the Butt Chugging fiasco and now? Anyway.

That's about where we are. Oh, crap, forgot...The University had an outside attorney to head the investigation, though if UT is his client, I don't know how it can be independent. So far, UT has released only the info they want us to see, because, of course, it's an ongoing investigation...which leads me to the other thing I forgot, a caller asked him some questions regarding Golden Gate and regarding one about the timeline, Hyams answered, it could go back several YEARS. I'm paraphrasing, but I'm sure my facts could be checked at the sports animal website by listening to the show in podcast form.

Whew...just waiting for the other shoe to drop now. SIAP

Forgot something else, might be important might not...and the there's the ol' "It's Jimmy Late to the century Hyams" disclaimer.

I believe it was the same caller, not sure...he said that he believed Martin knew about Golden's situation for weeks, or months. IF THAT IS TRUE...IF...IF...IF can't stress the IF enough...it lends a little more credibility to what Golden's dad said...which I forgot to mention above... Trae's dad denied it was for academic reasons.

That's not what I mean though. It gives credence to Trae's dad saying something about discussing a transfer for months.

Now it's a jumbled mess, my apologies, I'm ready for questions.:)

Apologies, I kinda pulled a thread jack there.

I think people are starting to get desensitized to it. I am tired of it. I live here. The stories start out like this:

AP Knoxville, Tn...I live here.

More to the point, I'm tired of the way the University consistently mishandles these types of situations. More often than not, making them more embarrassing for us.

If there's any good news at all, this is not only on the AD in terms of the players involved athletically...it falls much more on the academic side, the who knew and when did they know it INCLUDES the University Admin. This isn't the AD run amok...that's also the bad news...or maybe it's nothing.

It will be almost impossible for us to get back to championship levels with this type of stories coming out daily.

If I could amend your post starting after with,,,this lack of leadership.

Wright was the director of basically a seven person dept.? Not sure it's a dept. but...she reported to Vice Chancellor Rogers, who, well retired last week.

This is not some supervisor. He may be most infamous for the Butt Chugging thing, but he's in charge of those new Sorority Houses, he was one of the ribbon cutters, the new intramural fields on Sutherland Ave...It's a big deal.

From: Office of the Chancellor | Chancellor's Cabinet

◾ Multicultural Student Life
◾ Office of Dean of Students

The question everybody is asking is who knew? Notice Coach Martin hasn't resigned, nor has Dave Hart.

It's hard for me to believe those 7 or so folks working with Wright wouldn't know. Of course, it's hard to believe other athletes wouldn't know.

I am still laughing over the timing of the "Golden" Condom award for sex week - another awe inspiring event allowed to occur under the boogered nose of Cheek and his delightful assistant, Martin.

How the BOT and governor can allow this to continue is beyond me. Somebody needs to put on their big boy pants and fix this mess. They are becoming the laughingstock of the nation and seem to enjoy the fact that they are.
