I've just been told by a semi-reliable source that Sportscenter is reporting he ran a 3.85 40 for the Texans. As i refuse to have anything to do w/ ESPN, can anyone confirm this for me? Is there a reason he didn't do both sports here?

Yes they said that on ESPN.

The only reason he worked out with the Texans was because of his doping ban.

The Texans said they wouldn't be adding him to the roster at this time, eventhough the work-out went well.

Sam Graddy tried that in the late 80's with zero luck. Renaldo Nemiah had limited success as well. I don't see anything coming of it. I thought NFL coaches were more hesitant now to take on these kind of "project" players.

read the article on foxsports... didn't say anything about the 3.85 just that he was really fast and caught the ball well and they weren't signing him... and we wonder why they didn't draft reggie bush... does anyone know if we tried to get gatlin to play football?

3.85?! Sign this man, as long as Texans can protect David Carr for 4 sec, Gatlin would be wide wide open. Uhh, but the problem is, Texans are not able to give their quarterback 2.5 sec.

Speed doesn't translate into a good football player, just ask Leonard Scott.

He had it made until he didn't something stupid, broke the rules, and got caught. Something had worked out for him and he screwed it up.

He claims that a trainer gave him steroids in a balm, without his knowledge. It's possible he didn't intentionally do anything wrong.

Hey! this thread came back here. so does anyone know why UT didn't try him out @ WR? i know the leonard scott experiment. but remember, it was scott who fumbled the baton earlier this year, not gatlin. Gatlin supposedly played HS ball til he got into a disagreement w/ his coach and the Texans said he caught the ball well.

I think Fulmer inquired and Gatlin wasn't interested.

right, just like he wasnt interested in the Eagles when they went after him not to long ago...it's funny how a pretty much career ending ban from track will spark a sudden interest in a football career. I cant believe someone (Al davis) wont risk the NFL min. on him as a KO return man.

4 seconds is a pretty damn long time to be in the pocket. Texans should have drafted D'brickashaw Fergson rather than Mario. Their O-line is just flat out horrible.

Gatlin would be much better as a kick off returner or punt returner....as far as him being a WR, I dunno about that. It's pretty hard to be a pro WR when you've never played football.

As has already been said, Leonard Scott is a world class sprinter just like Gaitlin. He also had 4 years of college playing experience. But no one from the NFL picked him up as a project player.

Graddy didn't have much in the way of stats, but did make the roster for the Broncos ('87-'88) and the Raiders ('90-'92).

NFL career stats: 43 games, 18 receptions for 477 yards and 3 TDs.

True but Leonard Scott had stone-hands. If by some freak occurrence a guy that fast could catch? Man, that would be bad news for someone trying to cover him.

Wouldn't he need only 2 seconds, as it would take the ball 2 seconds to go forty yards?
