Dropped more passes as a Junior than Josh Smith has as a Freshman. Many times, Justin couldn't have caught a beach ball. We lost games as a result. Lets give Freshman Josh Smith some time. Not mentioning Justin had the same QB for years.

There's a huge talent gap between those two, you cant really compare them. And, while its true Justin dropped a few passes, he also made miraculous catches throughout his career and had td teceptions against numerous different teams. Plus I don't remember him costing us any games.

No dude. Justin dropped balls that was coming in over his head.

Josh is dropping them in stride right wear it needs to be. It's awful, he needs a year of doing nothing but catching balls. His route running is good. That's the only reason that he's in there.

Not according to Coach Butch Jones. Best hands on the team...

Really had hoped Paul Harris would be a game changer for us too. Guess he just can't out perform stone hands in practice to get on the field in the game.

Talent Gap? How would you know? He is a freshman. Plus, Justin did cost us some games. Justin Hunter is awesome. I just want to make the point that...... Maybe Josh Smith as a freshman still hasnt dropped as many passes as Hunter did last season.

No Pal. Justin dropped several passes dead on(Bray was accurate) and for a while there last season Justin tried to catch with alligator arms which if caught may have gotten us to Bowl Game. Remember??

There is a talent gap. Justin has Olympic athlete capabilities, Josh doesn't. So that's how I know. And if Josh hasn't dropped as many passes the e only reason would be because he never gets the ball thrown to him because he'll drop it.

And just curious, what games do you think Hunter cost us?

You're legit arguing that you can't tell a talent gap between a first round talent and a Josh smith? Just compare their freshman years.

Look, just to clear things up I think Smith is very talented. That guy is probably the best route runner on the team, and he knows how to get open. He just needs to learn to hang on to the ball.

So, Josh Smith will have as many or more drops than Justin Hunter??? Maybe Josh Smith becomes the next Zach Rodgers( you remember him?). Maybe Josh Smith drops every pass from hear on out, i dont know. But many star WR's have periods with Drops. Lets not forget he played High school football last year.

And just curious, if during a close game, a WR drops an easy pass to pick up a 1st down....does it affect the outcome?

It's clearly a mental thing. He'll gain his confidence back and, in turn, start catching passes again. Not worried.

First, I don't believe Hunter dropped this many passes. Second, there is no comparing Smith's talent to Hunter's talent. Smith could go on to become an All American and have a better NFL career than Hunter, and he still wouldn't have the natural abilities that Hunter has. You're also disregarding the fact that Hunter was making absolutely ridiculous catches before his injury. He definitely seemed to play more tentative coming back from his injury last year, and had some drops, but to compare that to what we've seen from Smith so far is ridiculous, IMO. What is Smith's excuse? All of that being said, I think that the drops we've seen from Smith are entirely mental, and correctable. Considering the ability he's shown to get open on a consistent basis, I'm excited to see what he's able to do in the future.

Not even close..just for arguement sake tho UT threw 40+ passes a game last yearin and until Dobbs started it was prob 25 times this yr and a quarter or more weren't even catchable from JW. Hunter was a feature WR and got thrown to alot and Smith prob 3 or so thrown at a game. Not even close to a comparison.

Mr. Smith, you should stay away from message boards. You might see people say things you don't like.

Dude, Hunter dropped some gimmes as well. If he only dropped the hard catches, then this wouldn't even be a topic in Volnation. But because he did drop several, hence the topic.

Doesn't matter how athletic you are if you can't catch and flop on the ground when you do catch it.

What games did he help us win as a junior?
