There's a huge talent gap between those two, you cant really compare them. And, while its true Justin dropped a few passes, he also made miraculous catches throughout his career and had td teceptions against numerous different teams. Plus I don't remember him costing us any games.
UF- 5 receptions for 76 yards. Despite only catching one pass in 2011 due to him tearing an ACL, he had a total of 9 receptions for 148 yards and 1 td.
UGA-3 receptions for 46 yards. Despite missing the 2011 game against UGA he totaled 7 receptions for 156 yards and 1 td.
USCe-Had 8 receptions for 90 yards in a 35-38 loss to the Gamecocks that was in no way his fault. Missed the 11' game due to an ACL tear and did not record any catches in the 10' game.
Bama-Had 4 receptions for 70 yards against the one of the best defenses in the land. Missed the 2011 game due to an ACL tear and did not record any receptions as a freshman in 2010.
Vandy- Had 5 receptions for 39 yards. Despite missing the 2011 matchup, Hunter still managed 6 receptions for 54 yards and 1 td against the Commode Doors in his career.
Not too shabby.
Look, just to clear things up I think Smith is very talented. That guy is probably the best route runner on the team, and he knows how to get open. He just needs to learn to hang on to the ball.
He dropped a few throughout the course of the season, but he usually had SEVERAL catches on the day that helped to make up for the times he may have dropped one. We all know players will drop some from time to time, but Josh Smith's issues are more acute than I can remember, since Zach Rogers' early years. No Pal. Justin dropped several passes dead on(Bray was accurate) and for a while there last season Justin tried to catch with alligator arms which if caught may have gotten us to Bowl Game. Remember??
He can't put himself into the games! When they do, he usually makes the catch when thrown his way. It's not his fault the Titans staff is ultra-conservative and scared to play a rookie. They seem happy with Washington, Wright and Williams...although I don't see Williams in the same league as Hunter.5 receptions for 71 yds and 2 TDs over 8 games.
Not agreat resume from a high draft pick yet.
Jury is still out.
