K-Rod to the Brewers

Is for 2 players to be named. Perhaps those players will depend on how much $$$ the Brewers wind up having to shell out for K-Rod? They didn't say if he'll supplant Axford as closer, but he's got that big $17.5 mil clause for finishing 55 games and he's more than half way there already.

The Brewers have no choice but to fire each and every gun at their disposal. Win now or win never, that's pretty much where they are at this point.

Time for the Cubs and the Cards to hang up their hats for the season.

I picked the Brewers to win the central as soon as Adam Wainwright went on the DL back in the spring. However, K-Rod won't save them if they don't start playing better on the road.

They should have gone for Heath Bell if they wanted to go that route.

I could see the Braves making a play for Bell. He's already said he'd be a setup man this year for a contending team.

I would take him in a heartbeat, but it would cost a bit too much and I think Chappy can hold it down, worst case.

Who is Chappy? Historically, the Braves haven't stood pat when they had a chance to win. Now, I'm not saying that they've always gone after the big deal that would put them over the top, but they've proven that they aren't afraid to attempt to improve their club, and they have been able to fly under the radar on many occasions (more of a Schuerholz trait than Wren). If they can't land a RH OF that can make a difference, why not shore up the bullpen at the cost of a couple of prospects? You go Bell, Venters, Kimbrel (in any order) for the 7th-8th-9th innings....that's the ballgame.

NVM: You are referring to your Reds and Aroldis Chapman.

I can't imagine the Braves doing that given the depth they have at the back of their bullpen unless the Padres are just giving him away.

Set up man/Closer is the area of least concern for the Braves. Like said previously, unless they are giving him away I don't see it.

I'm pretty sure I saw two of their relievers in the game last night.

True, but another arm would be nice to lighten the load on Venters and Kimbrel. They have pitched a lot of innings.

But they do get Moylan and Medlen back, so that will help as well.

Medlen just got shut down for 6 more weeks

You do. But our offense sucks, and we really don't have any true innings eater beside JJ this year.

Mike Adams would fit better than Bell.
