Karzai: "US in peace talks with Taliban"

The Obama administration is currently engaged in peace negotiations with the Taliban despite the fact that Barack Obama - during a Presidential debate in October of 2008 - excoriated the Pakistani government for conducting peace talks with the Taliban.

"We have to change our policies with Pakistan," said Obama in '08. "We can't coddle a dictator, give him billions of dollars, and then he's making peace treaties with the Taliban..."

any reasonable POTUS would be exploring every option to leave Afghanistan right now. While a peace treaty with the Taliban is certainly an ephemeral pospect, it provides enough plausibl deniability to disconnect the US from the catastrophe that the Karzai Government will face once we are gone.

Let's face it, this country is going right back to the way it was 90 seconds after we leave.

Have to agree.

We managed to kill of some Al-Qaeda and run the rest off into Yemen and some into Pakistan. But Afghanistan, for the most part, is finished.

Now, we want to leave them with some semblance of order and some measure of hope for us that they won't just let the roaches back into the motel.

I don't have high hopes for that. Never did.

We also further pissed off the Muslim world and offered Al-Qaeda ammo for recruitment. Their numbers are bigger than ever. I feel safer from terror now more than ever.
