Tradition doesn't seem to carry a whole lot of weight at the moment. At least not for every coach we've currently talked to.

Do we not have to interview a certain amount of possible coaches? I thought we did and those coaches just used the interviews to increase pay. The public says they turned it down, but did we actually lay a contract in from of them and say, it is your job? I think it is possible that we have our guy, just ironing out some details. Just like the Arkansas situation.

Can't help but think that we just fired a coach that wanted to be here (just like we did with Fulmer). If we had been patient and just let Phil find an offensive coordinator we would have been in good shape during the years Florida and Georgia were struggling. Now Dooley needed to find a defensive coordinator. If we had been patient and let him have a second chance at picking one out we wouldn't be in this embarrassing mess. Hart has absolutely blown this opportunity. I hope all the fans that think coaches are beating down the door to get to Tennessee finally realize how silly we look begging Louisville's coach to come here and then getting rejected in front of the entire nation!

1. A state-of-the-art training facility.
2. A program with some good talent that needs molding.
3. A million-$$ salary

And we can't lure a coach?

I'm staying hopeful that amidst all the media hype and chat room gurus, that somewhere out there is the coach for UT. My son keeps saying he thinks we have our coach and that Hart is just letting all the media hype run its course, then he'll announce that person. Wow I hope so, because regardless of what the fans are saying, we've got a group of young men on campus without leadership right now who need that person in place to start prepping them for the 2013 season. I will say that if this coaching hire becomes mediocre at best, I would have some serious concerns about the UT athletic department leadership. :cray::zeitung_lesen:

I think we go get Petrino if we can he is a good coach, I am just saying all have baggage so some people do and most that don't have it hidden. How about that Louisville?

120 years of football tradition WILL overcome this situation. Stay proud despite the negativity. VFL!

The only bright spot I see in all of this is that we are not on any type of NCAA trouble, which would cause any coach to run the other way.

Remember, late last week, I posted that everyone would turn us down and we would end up with Butch Jones?

I always felt that if Gruden did not come here, then the next 5 candidates on the supposed list would use U.T. to get a pay raise and then we hire Jones.

The past 5 coaches would have made a lateral move by leaving Oklahoma, Miami, Florida State, Oklahoma State or Louisville, so the percentages are that they will remain at their current University.

Shortly after Jone is hired, we will discover that he is winning at Cincinnati with Brian Kelly's recruits. Jones will be slightly better than Dooley... Dooley won 16 games in 3 season; whereas, Jones may win 20 games in 3 seasons.....

So, we essentially fired Dooley and paid him $5,000,000 to go away and then turned around a hired a coach almost identical to him.....

Good job Vol Fans, who demanded Dooley's departure. Good job Hamilton, who signed a stupid deal with Dooley's agent...

Can anyone give me insight into this excerpt from a USA Today article posted today?

Hart has had a rough tenure to say the least. When he was hired 15 months ago, he walked into a department with significant financial problems and internal strife and has ruffled plenty of feathers in trying to straighten everything out. Already, Tennessee has been hit with two discrimination lawsuits based on personnel changes Hart has instituted, one of which revealed allegations that he pushed legendary women's coach Pat Summitt to retire in a manner that could be viewed as impolite.... But the worst thing that can happen to a coaching search is for the process to get away from an athletic director while panic sets in. Tennessee moved one step closer to that on Wednesday.

I'm just wondering how much this is playing into our search process. I mean, hey, we've got NCAA violations to contend with (thank you flippin kiffin), and now EEOC suits?

Why hasn't Tony Dungee been mentioned? He is a super bowl winner and would be good for recruiting. With his pro connections surely he could come up with some coaches that would be beneficial to UT.
