a couple of observations:
1. Congratulations to him on receiving his degree. More guys should do it, if for no other reason than to show that finishing a task has value.
2. He appears to have found 100 pounds, while at the same time losing his Jeri Curl.

Keith gave some of the all time craziest post game interviews I have ever seen. Loved to watch him play the game though.

Those Tigers had some serious battles with conf foes 'ville and VT. The Metro was rough at the top when Dell Curry was around.
Imagine how good the Metro would have been if they could have roped DePaul and Marquette in during that era. Further, think about that league's strength if Cincinnati hadn't been suffering through the debacle that was Tony Yates' tenure as head coach.

Could have been nasty like that. Cincinatti definitely hurt being down. My dad made it a point to get me to a lot of those games as a tyke. Loved that whole Mphis team around lee. They were mental midgets and cheaters, but they were awesome athletically.

I loves me some Keith Lee.
He was the man. I grew up watching Memphis TV stations.

I wish I could find some kind of story on the internet confirming my hazy memory, but I believe I witnessed him missing the front end of a 1 and 1. The other players seemed to think it was a two shot foul and let the ball bounce back to him without attempting a rebound. He took the ball, drove the hoop and slammed it hard for the basket.

If it happened today it would be all over youtube, but alas, it was a different time.

Your memory is true Vader, he did do that. I will always remember that play.

Imagine how good the Metro would be if they had gone all sports and stayed together. VT, Louisville, Cincy, South Carolina, FSU, Memphis, Tulane, at one time Ga. Tech.

I wish I could remember his playing days more. I was only about 7 or so.

Greatest Tiger of all time. Soft hands, great shot. With today's one, two, three and done, Keith Lee should remain the all time leader in points and rebounds.

Hardaway was arguably as great, but had nowhere near the supporting cast.

wow, Keith Lee........brings back memories........i remember he and Andre Turner came to my grade school once......i think i was in 3rd grade?

anyway, definitely remember the buzz about that team when i was growing up.

the other thing that i vividly remember was Denny Crum and Dana Kirk just going at it on the sidelines during the Memphis State/L'ville games.........that was a great rivalry. the metro was a good conf. back in the day.

Being a West Memphis Alum, I always have a little love for KL. He came back to WM just last week for the Blue Devil Classic where they honored the eight state championships in bball. KL was on the 1980-1981 team that went 60-0 in route to two state championships. They still hold the state record for most consecutive wins. There was another NBA player on that team in Micheal Cage. We called them the twin towers. To have two NBA players on the same HS team was unbelievable. I haven't seen Michael Cage since he quit doing the Grizzlies color. All I know is he is living in Arizona.

What most people might not know is that KL actually signed with Arkansas State University, when he was in high school and working for Hassel McCain at a local Miller Beer Distributor in WM. McCain was also on the Board of Directors at ASU, and because of that, they were placed on probation, and KL ended up at Memphis. The University of Arkansas (Frank Broyles) was the whistle Blower on that entire ordeal.

Larry Finch and Larry Kenon are appalled at being excluded from this debate.

I was 2 when Finch and Kenon played, so didn't get to see them live. I would say Lee because he is all time scoring and rebounding leader. Took his teams to (3)Sweet 16 and a Final Four.

That being said, Larry Finch is more than a player. He is the most important person associated with Mempihs State/U of M, ever. More than just Ws, Conference Championships, NCAA tourney runs.

Kenon was a stud. 500+ rebounds in his only season - Freakin' impressive.
