Talked to a guy who was a coach on both of their staffs. Had some interesting things to say about both. However, he thinks that Kelly will have Notre Dame turned around and kicking ass pretty soon.
Believes that Weis is a good OC but a horrible head coach by how he organized and ran the program.

On another note, he gave me some good insight on how some of the coaches evaluate talent, how they get past some of the recruiting rules, and the money that is passed around to the recruits as well.

Kelly wins. Period. With Notre Dame's history and facilities, they'll be back on top within 3 years

By that do you mean they'll be good, or they'll be national championship good? I think he's got a little longer on the second part.

It will be a little longer. Their schedule isn't easy enough the next few years for them to make the title game, in my opinion.

By 2012, Michigan will probably be much better, Stanford may be really good if they still have Harbaugh, and they play USC and Oklahoma. Kelly's good, but 3 years won't be enough time, unless he's recruiting at an exceptional level.

Ultimately, I do believe it was a good hire... I think ND will be at least part of the title talk late in the season at least once while Kelly is around.

18 year old kids don't give a damn about things that happened in the 1940s and Notre Dame's facilities are second rate by FBS superpower standards. Kelly may well win there, but it'll have nothing to do with those things.

Well, I will put it this way. This guy's father is a coach as well. He knows Monte well and knew Lane when he was a kid. Fast forward to today, he said Brian Kelly and ND will whip USC consistently after Kelly builds up his program.

I am not a ND fan at all. In fact, I usually hope they do lose. However, it would be nice to see USC lose year after year to ND.

Not that difficult. Their schedule is usually USC, some mediocre teams and a bunch of bunk.

agreed, but SC definetly has them whipped right now. i'm not sure even the players think they can beat them. i do think it's only a matter of time before ND is good, but it's still in indiana. i don't see them turning into florida or SC.

South Bend is also one of my least favorite "college towns" I've been to.

Big-time talent just isn't that interested in ND for the most part anymore.
