2011 scouting report for Tennessee

Pre-season #25. #3 in the SEC East behind Florida and Kentucky.

Record of 22-6 and 13-3 in conference play.

Interesting that in the East he has Vandy ahead of Georgia, and in the west has MSU #3 and Arkansas #5.

Pomeroy is a weird cookie sometimes. There are a few statistical categories where they are spot on, and some where they whiff totally. I think UT is 21-7, somewhere around 12-4 or 11-5 in the SEC. Come January, MSU will become solid.

Yeah, 13-3 usually wins the conference outright.

If that's the case the SEC would be in the top 3 if UF and UK are 14-2 in SEC play.

AKA...I don't buy it.

His predictions actually say 10-6, not 13-3.

I see us at 21-7 and 11-5 in conference play. We'll lose @Florida, @UK, @Vandy, then one more unexpected loss away and drop one at home in conference play. I only see us losing 2 games in out of conference play. One to Pitt and one in the early Preseason tourney.

You'all don't read too much into these statistical gurus. Ninety percent of them evolved out of the free wheelin gambling days of the 60-70's. I used to go with my pop to the local small town newstand on saturday morning when I was little and everybody in town came in for their football parlay cards and the saturday game bets. The best I can make of this nut is that he takes the loses of the year before which is the away games and makes some bullsh*t factor or percentage why you'll lose. Then the big kicker is how both UNC and UK both are ranked in his poll which is supposed to be non-biased; above us. Based on what? Anybody remember how sickly weak Caroliner is on the inside? Neither one of those fellas can hold up against Kenny Hall much less Brian Williams! One big recruit and suddenly their playing for the national Championship. Kentuck? Anybody see their games played this summer in Canada? Nothing even close to last years recruiting class. I can't wait for my second favorite team ETSU to travel up their this Friday. I wouldn't be suprised!! Almost everybody back from last years ASUN champs. Oh, by the way, the best way to pick a parlay card if we even do it anymore, is too draw names out of a hat. That is a proven statistic! It won more times than not around here.

LOL. Something like 7 out of the last 10 Pomeroy picks going into the tourney have won it all.

Also, Kentucky has an exponentially more talented roster than UT. You all have no guards even comparable to Knight, your wings are inferior and if Kanter is eligible, he is 10x the player of anyone you have in the post. I'm also not convinced that Jones isn't a much better player than Harris.

Couple of things.

- Dude, enter key is your friend.
- The first part was something that I didn't understand about gambling and going with your father to a newsstand. Not exactly sure what that was about.
- Reason he's got UNC and UK ranked above us, is, gasp, he think they're a better team. Truth be told, they are.
- Like I expect Kentucky to take some Canadian school seriously.
- And I'm guessing you're going to like it when UK drills ETSU by 20+.
- Of course UK's class this year isn't going to be as good as last year's. You rarely see 3 lottery picks in one recruiting class.
- I'm betting you make a lot of money on gambling(!)

Looks like he's got us 20-8, and 10-6 in conference play.

Has us losing at Kentucky, at Florida, at Vanderbilt, and at Mississippi. The other two losses I couldn't find on there.

Heh, what do you know, he gives us a 0.03% chance of going undefeated in conference play.

A strange analysis. If you're going to list all the games you should see that the two totals match.

They do match. The predictions have percentages associated with them, and the total at the bottom takes that into account. If you're expected to beat Florida, but it's only a 51% chance you win, then the W/L column says "W," but you don't get a guaranteed point in the totals, you get 51% of a point.
