Meh, its just part of the language, and its been used for a long time, in describing football. Nothing meant by it, imo the feigned outrage is pretty stale.

This.

Nearly every football player has used similar language. I don't think they're trying to take anything away from real soldiers.

If anything, he's being complimentary by saying the standard for focus and intensity is that of a soldier.
