Kenny Hall dubbed Jarnell Stokes as "Big Future"?

We all hope he is the big future, but he has only played one game. I can't wait to see him next season after an offseason with strength & conditioning and also the playbook.

"Big Future 1.5," because with talent like that we're only gonna have him in orange for 1.5 seasons. Sadly.

The Big Future will be a very short story. He will not be here any later than necessary to qualify for the NBA draft. Be that the end of this year or next year; either way he will be gone before too long.

Whatever works for the players is fine on the names thing.

I would not bet the house on that 1.5 years thing. He is not a flakey Scotty Hopson. He may choose to get his degree before the NBA since he is an excellent student and more mature young man. He will listen to his parents' advice. He will not know who will be projected as first rounders with him after next season until closer to time. A lot of factors go in to this. They can get an insurance policy to cover the potential of career ending injuries.

Encouraging to see a guy like Kenny Hall give a compliment like this to the new guy on the team. Gives credence to the "team" mentality that Cuonzo's trying to instill in this program. Have heard similar sentiments from the other players as well. Shoots down the questions some have posed as to Stokes' entry into the line up possibly disrupting off the court chemistry.

I think a big thing in this is the education part. He is a tremendous student and graduated early from high school. He may be trying to graduate in 3 years here as well. If that is the case you may see him stay here for his junior year and then leave since hell have graduated.

The chemistry comments are from people who don't know stokes and the players on this team. This team LOVES the kid and for good reason. He is going up make everybody on the team better both from playing with him and practicing against him. He is also going to make the team better and obviously that is what everybody wants.

I agree - It seems like most of the guys on this team want to win above all else. I was questioning Kenny's commitment earlier this year. I'm sure he had aspirations of being "the guy" on this team like Chism was, considering Wayne was a big influence on him early in his career here. Kenny's come on recently, so I'm inclined to think that his sulking was due to his poor performance rather than him feeling slighted by not being handed the keys. We've learned a lot about Kenny this year. Seems like a good kid, and he's now playing like we knew he could.

During the Kentucky game I understood Sykes as saying he had spoken with Stokes, and Stokes was not considering leaving early. He quoted Stokes as wanting to learn from CM while here and that he had a lot to learn. Sykes went on to say that Stokes wanted to be great.

I never heard this from Dykes, maybe Sykes said it I can't comment on that because I don't know who that is. I'm pretty positive dykes never said this during the game, I watched it twice and tried to figure out where he got his info. Was this a separate interview?

He did say during the game that Stokes wanted to be a multi year guy.

Yea I heard that but that could mean 2 years which we are guaranteed anyways(1.5 years). Dykes really spoke like he knew something though but never gave a reason I just think it was his opinion of jarnell. Time will tell, I would say going into next year well have a good idea of his intentions.

I wouldn't put my money on Stokes staying for more than 1.5 years. It could happen though.

i think it all just depends on projection. if you are talking consensus top 10 pick and guaranteed lottery i absolutely dont fault him for going that is a smart business move. this his dream theres no way i could expect him to stay here instead.

My mistake, sorry. I meant Dykes. He did say that on the air during the game.

on air dykes said this? " ive spoken with jarnell and he is not considering leaving school early, he will be at tennessee for 4 years"? "i want to play for cm and get better"? im not saying you misunderstood but i think you are the only one on this board to have heard this said.

Dykes said he will stay for 3.5 years. I promise.

I think he pulled that out of his ass, but that's what he said. Debate over.
