sad news - I just watched some footage of the 76 Raiders vs Patriots playoff game a few days ago -- remembered as a kid how upset i got when the Raiders won on a bogus roughing the passer call --

He was a great one. I was a big fan of his when he was with the Raiders. He was the best left handed QB that I ever saw play the game.

Back in the mid 90's Stabler did an interview with Mike Keith and got super pi$$ed when Mike brought up him throwing the ball away intentionally on 4th down from the 6 yard line in our '65 tie... For the rest of the interview he kept interrupting Mike's questions with "ROLL TIDE!". Mike finally had to hang up on him. One of the strangest radio interviews that I've ever heard.

Yeah, this is a big name from my childhood. He may have been a Bammer, but you have to respect his accomplishments on the football field.

And nobody deserves to go out like that.

A left handed Brett Favre. Hated him as a Chiefs fan, but loved him as a QB. RIP Snake.

Most amazing Stabler story:

When Kenny was 16, he came home to find his mother and younger brother sitting on the couch while his drunken father pointed a shotgun at them. Slim Stabler outweighed Kenny by about 70 pounds, but Kenny fought his dad for the gun to protect his family. At one point, his dad got free and pointed the gun directly in Kenny's face. But Kenny didn't back down, he grabbed the gun and eventually wrestled it away.

Ken Stabler: "After you've come home to find your dad pointing a shotgun at your mother and brother, third-and-long doesn't seem like a big deal anymore."

RIP Snake. Ghost to the Post against the Colts was the first play I remember seeing as a kid and realizing how incredible the game could be. A loss for football fans everywhere.
