No, but I didn't get to date one so he isn't allowed, either. :biggrin2:

UK also has three 7-footers competing over a few minutes of action. :birgits_giggle:

Yeah, but these days I think even at 7 foot you have to be athletic and well coached. Guess the jury is out right now on which of those is the problem.

I would think quite a few big time coaches would step up to the Kentucky job, or am I missing the point here?

I would highly doubt that, especially if Tubby was fired. Look at the recent coaching replacements with schools that have the same tradition as UK.

UNC-replace Dean Smith with Guthridge, Guthridge with Dougherty (did either of those work out. No)

KU-replace Roy Williams with Bill Self

IU-Bobby Knight with Mike Davis (to his credit, Davis did take them to the NCG and then rode them out of the tournament for the first time in __ years)

Getting rid of good coaches in down years in no way guarantees a marquee name to come in and resurect the program.

Tubby will not be fired at Kentucky. We don't make a practice of firing Basketball coaches. Football coaches, yeah, but not in roundball.

I expect him to gut his assistant coach staff. Reggie Hanson is in charge of developing the big men, and is failing miserably. He's a former UK player, but he needs to go. Scott Rigot needs to find another job too. And don't get me started on David Hobbs.

I expect that we'll see the offense shift into gear in the next few weeks as we get used to having a force in the middle again. Morris looks much better than last year, and has a chance to be dominant. The x-factor is the personality conflicts that are going on. Sparks was too good of a player to explain the horrible year he's having.

I wouldn't count the Cats out just yet... there's just too much talent on that team to presume they are through for the season. Their defense is outstanding; they just can't score. But they're shooting the ball horribly, and one would have to assume that can't continue all season. Just so long as the bad shooting shows up for the 2 games with UT.

Gregg Doyel, I believe, at Sportsline opines that UK needs to start putting their best players on the floor together (the guards), play a four-and-one style of offense like Villanova does (and, oh yeah, Bruce Pearl), and quit worrying about getting all the big men (other than Morris) minutes. Interesting theory.

There are lots of similarities to what Tubby is going through, and what Fulmer has this past year.

The biggest difference I can think of (except for sport of course) is that they've been calling for Tubby's head ever since he took over in Lexington! 2 losses? UNACCEPTABLE! Fire Tubby!

Oh, and I didn't mean to come across as sour grapes, I was just doing some friendly family fun in calling my cousin, and thought it was funny enough to share. I love watching the Pole Cats play bball.

I have to confess that I am taking some delight in their situation simply because I think the whole Morris thing was shennanigans. I'd like to see the league get a little more balanced. Would prefer it if we all rose to the level of Kentucky's program -- and truth be told I think Florida has been headed in that direction since Donovan came in. But if it takes Kentucky comng pack to the pack a little bit to help the rest of the SEC get there, well, so be it.

They would have no problem hiring a marquee coach. I would say that anyone excluding Williams and coach K would be fair game. If a change were to occur, I would like to see Rick Majerus or Dennis Felton step in. Donovan, Calipari, Mike Anderson would also be very interested.

I just don't see how you can think this is good for the league - good for UF maybe but not good for the league. We may only get 5 teams into the tourney this year. If the SEC is to be more balanced, more teams have to step up to UK's level rather than having UK come back to the pack. Look at the ACC - Duke has been the most consistent force there. UNC is close and various other teams have stepped up over the years. Same in the Big East - teams have always stepped up since the mid-80's. These leagues consistently have 2 - 5 top tier teams. For the SEC to compete, we have to do the same.

Don't worry the will not be at the back of the pack for long. Kentucky basketball fans are much less patient than UT football fans. Trust me. They were complaining about not getting to the final four last year.

Bill Self took Tulsa to the Elite Eight, recruited the team Bruce Webber is winning with at Illinois, and has a painfully young team playing great right now. I'd say Kansas did just fine replacing Roy Williams.

I listen to Lexington sports talk, and every night is like group therapy. The whole dang state is on suicide watch. :ermm:

Heck, Tubby's teams can be absolutely devastating. We've forgotten the 19-0 SEC run of a few years ago, a NC in 98 (Sound familiar, football fans?), and the fact that he's won 85% of his games, a greater clip than Pitino.

I think in some way, some of the more idiotic fans believe that Pitino will walk through the door if Tubby gets canned. Ain't gonna happen, no way.

If Tubby gets us to a FF, I think that the natives would be soothed. They suffer from Duke Envy, I'm afraid.

Dunno. I listen to WLAP, which is the only thing available over the 'net.

Who is on WLAP? I can't remember for the life of me.

Is it Tim "Woody" Woodburn?

Woodburn is the loud-mouth on WVLK. He and Antonio O'Ferrall host a pretty toxic post-game show during football season.

Jim Tirey was on WLAP for a long time, but talk is that he had a tiff with management. At the moment, they're trying to get a permanent replacement, so it's a long list of fill-ins at the moment, led mostly by Dick Gabriel.

Cross and Deener are still on WLAP, and it is still a commercial every five seconds. Deener left for about a year and recently came back.

Big news is that Cutler is returning to do the WLAC sportstalk next week. He seems to get everyone around here fired up pretty well. This place is as depressed as I have ever seen it.

I like Alan Cutler pretty well. That would be nice to see him take that spot.

McCat the talk around here is that they are moving Morris to the four spot and will start Orbzut at the five. Sims has been suffering from a bulging disk. Things are not looking good.

I read that Tub's going big against Bama. Morris at the 4 should make things very interesting, indeed. We haven't had a big lineup like that in a long time.

Hope Sims can get a redshirt. Doubt it, tho.

I know Tim Woodburn and Drew Deener very well. I worked with them both when we worked for the Thoroughblades. I can tell some stories about both of them, especially Woody.

I always thought Cutler was an arrogant buffoon but he seems to have calmed down since he has done radio out of Cincinnati.

Cutler's predictions are classic, Jules Camara will be in the NBA Hall of Fame and my favorite, Keith Bogans will be the next Michael Jordan.
