Kentucky signs 8th player to freshman class

He's a Cat.

How do you think this bodes for Wiggins? I've felt like he would commit with you guys all along, but the further he waits, and given this commitment, I'm not as certain anymore. Reason why I say that is that it's fairly clear now who you guys will have playing next year and has been for a few weeks. Wiggins has possibly been waiting so long to see who is returning/incoming at his other options. I know Mcelmore is leaving at Kansas, and the UNC guys have yet to announce, although I've heard some suggestion that all three will most likely stay. Who knows; we'll find out tomorrow about the UNC three, from what I'm hearing.

That is a huge class, St. John's had a big class not long ago, but not sure how many it was.

Edit...after a quick search looks like it was 8 as well,

Did they really bring in a guy named God's Gift?

IDK to be honest. He's as close to the vest as can be.

I agree; I just don't understand Cal's delay in offering Hawkins until now, however. I understand you all still have one more spot available, as does Carolina (I think). If UNC returns all of their guys (or even just two of them), I think us and UK are the most reasonable landing spots for Wiggins if he indeed wants to win a national title in his one year, like he's stated before. Like I said before, I have been thinking you all would get him (Cal's recruiting horseshoe), but the longer he waits, the more uncertain I am. It's been fairly obvious for some time now who will be playing at UK next year. But perhaps he's just enjoying the process and will go there in the end anyhow.

If we want to get technical, the 1978-79 Evansville team brought in an all-new roster after the plane crash in 1977.

According to Hawkins, he told reporters that he had an offer a few weeks ago. I'm thinking that the delay in announcing was out of respect to Ryan Harrow's pending transfer.

In theory we have one more spot. As I have been told, Jarrod Polson could get aid related to being a graduate student, and not count against the 13 scholarships.

I agree that UNC or UK would be the top two logical choices. Who would want to attend FSU and lose?

FSU will most likely be much improved, and they have 3 7-footers down in the post. They were a young team and inexperienced for the most part, but I still don't expect them to be that good this coming season. Maybe the following one, but not this one. And Kansas seems questionable as well at least this coming season. All goes back to UNC and UK, just like you said.

Edit: And I can understand the Hawkins delay, given Harrow's transfer, but it still leaves upon the question as to why Wiggins has not committed yet if he knows UK is the place for him. I'm not saying he won't go that route, but it is peculiar that he hasn't yet.

He's was bein a smartass about you saying he signed and made sure to point out he only committed. I thought it was pretty lame on his part.

Not everyone on the VN is out to get you. Take it easy.

I figured you were joking as well, but sarcasm is often difficult to grasp on the interwebs.

Way to be a jack-ass bleeding. Missing the point. We get our 8th player, and possibly adding Wiggins.

Read my later posts, I am in awe of how big the class is. Gonna be the youngest team in the country by far, gonna be very interesting to see how these guys gel, if they do. I'm also curious to see the maturity (if there is any) by Poythress, or if there's gonna be issues there with a freshman taking his minutes and hurting his stock...

as for wiggins, don't hold your breath, I really don't think he's going to UK. If he does, just increases the pressure, can only put 5 guys on the court at once...at this point regardless of Wiggins, Kentucky will have the best 5 in the country. On that note, I'm also curious to watch Cals philosophy, he likes a shorter bench and the 12 team really went 6 maybe 7 deep, he's gonna have to probably go 10 deep this year.

Agreed. I think we don't get Wiggins, but I don't feel as though it's a huge deal that we don't. We kept a few players from last year and I could see UK not playing a true athletic SF like Wiggins. We're so deep in the guards and big men (for Cal).

Poythress will be very important next year. If he can improve his shooting and step up, great. Could see him end up going high in the draft.

I like UK finally getting someone like Hawkins, a player that might stay for 3 or 4 years. That is if he doesn't get tired of not playing a ton of minutes and transferring. Could be another Stacey Poole imo (whose dad was involved iirc).

No one knows what Wiggins will do.

To your point about them gelling - they played in the JBC game last night and the McDAA game a week or two ago. Just spending time together the week of the game builds chemistry...I think they'll be fine

They won't have a chemistry issue with one another, for sure. Now, with Cal and the returning players who are used to starting....that remains to be seen. Cal will earn his $$$ this year.

Team is deep enough if Poythress is a no-show he can ride the bench. I think everyone fighting for minutes will do wonders for toughness.
