Kentucky Spends Almost As Much On Midnight Madness As It Does for Football Recruiting

It looks ridiculous to us, but consider their perspective. How much better would the UK football team really be if that 300k were put there? One could argue that Madness is the better bang for the buck there.

We spend more than Bama. :( Has your 1.4mil brought you to the top of the SEC east?

No, but hopefully that huge recruiting budget will help lure a great football coach. Basically, UT will spend what it takes to try to compensate for the in-state recruiting disadvantage we have against Florida, LSU, UGA, Bama, etc. Winning at football doesn't interest UK enough to spend their money there. If UK would spend $1 million per year on football recruiting instead of breaking the bank on a renegade basketball coach, they'd eventually have a much better football team. To each his own.

When I was there Bill Curry was football coach and Pitino was in his 2nd year. Football was playing Ole Miss in Oxford on the same weekend as midnight madness. None of the local TV stations or paper sent reporters to Oxford.

He was in the next section over from us at madness and just seems like a truly good, happy person. Was talking to everyone, laughing and having a good time. My grandpa thinks Cal talks too much, but he loves coach Mitchell and "my girls" as he calls them

Did you see the numbers? As bad as UK football is, it still earns three times the profit of basketball.

Profits in 2011-2012

Football – $19,668,166
Basketball – $6,201,868

From a simple return on investment standpoint, why not put more money in football?

Basic math skills are not a Kentuckian's strong suit.

There are plans for a 100M upgrade at Commonwealth. Stay tuned....
