Maybe the other teams, looking in a mirror here, should do something.
North Carolina almost shook things up... almost.College football is predictable and boring. There is a 100% chance the playoffs will be chosen from the same 6 teams every year. I haven’t watched a single minute of football today and haven’t missed it. I can’t remember the last time I was like this.

Horse ****. Maybe it takes a year or two longer but that’s it. Bama, Ohio state, LSU, UGA, Ohio state, Clemson, Oklahoma, and maybe Auburn have a shot at making the playoff. That’s 8 teams for 4 spots. Maybe it takes you 4 instead of 2 years but even that’s debateableThe 25 signing rule makes it extremely difficult to unseat the ones at the top. You basically can’t have any misses with recruits and little to no attrition for multiple years, all while playing second fiddle with the blue chips that want to go to current Championship schools.
The days of going through cycles are over. The system keeps those at the top, well, at the top now.
A one loss Clemson isn’t getting in over a one loss big 10 team or sec teamBut that is just the thing. A one loss Clemson ACC championship team is more than likely still in. Bama has gotten in with losses and not even winning the conference before. Oklahoma has only Texas to go through. OSU? Lol.
It’s the same teams. It just is.

I don’t disagree with you on that. But you are kidding yourself if you don’t think the Florida’s, Texas, Michigan’s, etc Dont eventually figure it out and start getting in the mix. Miami too. I should include us but we have been lost at sea a long time. Oh and I left off the USC’s and UCLA’s of the world. It’s going to be the same 6 teams, with maybe a couple of new ones every couple years added in. But it will be some combination of Bama, OSU, OK, UGA, Clemson. You can pretty much pencil in 3 of those teams will be in the playoff every year. Bama has made it every year. The most intriguing thing to watch for is which Washington or Notre Dame type team will make it in to lose in the first round.
You sound like a UT fan. Well at least you are going to win more then two games and have a competent coach.Gosh...that was a brutal game.
Team has completely fallen apart since the middle of the Florida game.
I'd be all for benching Smith and giving Walker Wood or Gilmore a chance. Heck let's experiment with Bowden at QB. This season is lost. Injuries, new players...just pray we can keep people committed.

The only thing stacked against them is coaching staffs. That’s it.

Historically it's worked out for most schools that had a "coach in waiting" for schools already having some success. AFAIK.On paper we have one of the best staffs in the country. I know, on paper. Michigan is the same, on paper. OSU and OK haven’t skipped a beat so far with new HC’s and Bama cycles through new staffs every year and still gets in.
I’m convinced is almost all about roster management and flipping a bad roster takes prohibitively long if your lucky, and it’s impossible if you’re not. It’s a lot easier to maintain a good one.
