Noel being out is a big plus for any team playing Kentucky that goes into the paint, obviously. Wiltjer is the ? mark that I see. He's a big man with plenty of range and will no doubt step back and take a few deep ones. As long as our guards crash the boards and we contain him, I see no reason we shouldn't beat Kentucky. Not hating on Kentucky but Willie Cauley-Stein shouldn't scare any of our post players. This game just got a lot more interesting for us.

If Wiljter gets hot it will be tough. But since he doesn't have Noel on the inside so we can focus more on him. I don't see Stein effecting us very much. I see Stokes handling him. Poythress is another that at any moment he will have good game or a terrible one. We have a good chance I feel like.

Agree. Wiljter and Stein have size but the dont like to bang. Our guards rebound and block better than those two.

KY was just learning to really play good together. The pieces were starting to fall into place for them at the right time. Being the first game that Noel is out should be a HUGE advantage for us. They might eventually learn to play together without him, but not the first game. This game really shouldn't even be that close if we play like we have the last couple games.

The best chance against a Cal coached team IMO. Yes. Poythress will likely play the game of his life tomorrow. Poythress, Wiltjer and WCS would be a tall task for our team to guard but Noel is just on another level. Besides having amazing quick hands for a big man, Stokes can muscle either of the two in the paint because neither have the body control or skill to block or slap shots away like Noel did. I am just worried about Wiltjer heating up.

Really are best chance was last year at home we had the game won but I get what you're saying. We could either win by 6 or lose by 6. This win will help us out a lot. Just keep Kenny out of the line up is what really needs to happen.

Anytime you have a big men launching 15 feet away, your guards have to crash the boards and the games I've watched, they seem more interested in getting back or just not being interested in doing that. Against teams like Tennessee, I don't see why Cal wouldn't have everyone crashing the boards because even though we can get up the floor at times, that's just not Martin's style. Will be interesting to see how the Kentucky players react without Noel.

And since the game is at TBA anybody on their team could potentially have a career high against us. Dont know what it is about Thompson, but I think we give up more career highs than any team in the country! ha

Maybe our rims are wider than regulation.?

Yeah. I'm talking about pre game anticipation. No way I seen us hanging close to Kentucky last year but I always figured we would blow the CBG teams out and they beat us or played with us so that's the beauty of this game...you can almost always count on it being decent no matter how much talent either team has.

A Kentucky fan I know told me yesterday that the reason losing Noel is such a big deal is because he covered up for a lot of defensive mistakes the other players made with his tremendous shot blocking ability and range.

Noel was Griner's male counterpart as far as making the game much easier for teammates. Not as much though, as Griner's obviously by herself in the women's game.

Speaking of injuries, I think we can beat L.S.U. if Rohan Davey is not 100%. Let's face it. A 23 year old, former semi-pro baseball player named Maulk will not be able to beat us.

Not hating L.S.U. but Maulk doesn't scare me.....

The same thing happened in 2008 - KY lost their best player in the game before coming to Knoxville. We had one of our best teams, and we still barely beat them.
I expect the game tomorrow to be decided in the final minutes, and I will not be surprised by either team winning. I'll be in attendance for this one.

Stokes trending up and UK big men trending down. ANd Trae Golden trending up and their freshman coming off a tough loss and a tough injury.

It's KY. It doesn't matter who's suiting up. They're not going to roll over for UT because someone is hurt. I expect at least one of KY's players to shoot the lights out, and we will not beat them unless we play one of our best games of the season.

Stein will be the first defensive challenge for Stokes since we played UK in Lexington. He is very mobile and if Stokes has a good game against him then it will prove that he might be ready to jump.

Everytime I pass the buses heading down from Lexington, it's goodluck and we win. Soooo...I'll camp out off of 75 to secure us a win :D Problem solved.

Tomorrow will either be the season maker or breaker when it comes to reaching post season play whether that be NCAA or NIT. With a win, this team should have all of the confidence in the world to win most of their remaining games and make a run similar to last year. A loss to an undermanned Kentucky team would hurt morale and destroy any confidence gained recently.

Just don't lose wiltjer. He killed us last game, hopefully the refs let us play, they do and I like our chances.

I could see Cal bringing to the attention of the officials the lack of calls stokes has been getting.

Win Tomorrow and the only tough games we have coming up is UGA, Florida and Mizzoui. We still have a good shot to make the tourney. Wins against 2 of the 3 UK UF and/or Mizzoui and we are in I think. We don't have a noticiably bad loss. I'll take a loss against UF or Mizzoui if we can win the rest of our games and at least one or two in the SEC tourney.

At this point IMO, we'd have to run the table completely or win the tournament. I gave up on that dream a long, long time ago. I do hope we spank Kentucky though!!

Can only hope we get the same crew as last game. Unfortunately, we don't usually have a home court advantage when it comes to officiating. I honestly think it's gonna be a BS day in that regard because they're probably gonna call everything to keep it from getting chippy. I'm officially expecting some game-changing officiating /whining

It is over for Kentucky. They are depleted. They did not need to lose anybody and they lost one of the main pieces.

1) Stop Wiltjer from outside and put Q on him

2) Get WCS in foul trouble

3) Make sure Goodwin and Poythress stay out of the paint

4) Be aggressive on offense and attack the basket

5) Get back. No fastbreak buckets for KY.

Yeah I'm with ya. Would be good to see for recruiting if we could make another strong run to finish the season and possibly make NIT
