Kentucky's Death March

I hate being the favorite. Seems like a lotta pressure to get number 8.

Great read. Gotta love the last sentence.

"Kentucky totally deserves to win. But I sure hope they don't."

I almost posted this earlier. Told my ex girlfriend who is an enormous ky fan to read it.

She got mad because she couldn't disagree with it.

The author talks a lot about balance in the NCAA - the reason extremely talented freshman and sophomores dominate NCAA basketball is pretty straightforward:
1. They are no longer allowed to go straight to the NBA from high school
2. The extremely talented juniors and seniors (who used to balance the talented freshman) are all in the NBA.
The author seems to be befuddled by this but it seems pretty straight-forward to me. In a climate where it is more and more popular for talented upper classmen to leave early to pursue their career there was still some balance because the talented freshman (or would-be freshman) were forgoing their collegiate career and going straight to the NBA. With the introduction of the one and done rule we see a fairly predictable result – the influx of talented freshman combined with the shrinking number of NBA talented upperclassmen has caused a system where upper-echelon teams choose (the rest get the scraps) between superior talent (and youth) or inferior talent (and experience).

As I read this article I kept waiting to hear something new but never did.

I disagree with this article. It's entirely over dramatic. Schools have and will always try to get the best talent.

This is totally spot on. It's already happening, this year, Davis, Gilchrist, Miller, Jones, maybe Teague and Lamb will be gone, and next years' starting five are still sitting in a classroom right now.

College basketball needs to change. The author's right. Every year it would be Kentucky/Duke/UNC/Kansas/Michigan State, etc.

I would like to see it be the same as it is in football. 3 year minimum. Kentucky may have 5 good players, and they would still recruit well, but it would not be the stockpiling of talent they're used to now. If anything, it would spread the remainder of talented players out over the nation. It would make college basketball better across the board.

I'm rather sick of it being treated like a farm league. I'm with the author. Kentucky deserves to win. They have the best talent in the nation. But something's gotta give in this college basketball age.

This has been happening ever since they instituted 1 and done. Nothing UK does this year will change that.

Louisville, OSU, and Kansas all made it this year. None of those teams are where they are because of 1 and dones.

Nice read. But isn't Coach Cal caring about kids more than he does basketball sort of...uh...BS? lol. I laughed out loud when I read that part and no man..he's not a "nice dude". But Kentucky is indeed the most talented team in the country and if they lost, I'd be extremely shocked. Derrick Rose and co. could not hit a freethrow to save their life. John Wall and the Cats were way to soft IMO. This year's team would probably own both of those teams easily. They are sooo talented and balanced that it's scary. You don't go into the paint because they are a blocking machine. Then you got to try and stay in front of these guys when everyone on the floor is likely a future NBA player with crazy skills and speed. They hit freethrows, can hit threes, rebound well, and play amazing defense. All around a crazy good team. The only way this team loses is if Anthony Davis doesn't play or the other two teams just shoot completely lights out and don't miss a shot (both highly unlikely)
