I got home from work in time to see the last three innings or so of his 20 strikeout game. The Astros were waving at everything like the whole team had money on the Cubs.
The biggest what-if pitching tragedy of my lifetime is still Dwight Gooden, who (that one game notwithstanding) was way more dominant his rookie year than Wood was. But Kerry Wood's gotta be second.
My dad (who is not even a New York Met fan, by the way), just shakes his head in disgust when I bring up Gooden.
Also, JR Richard was a tragedy too. Gooden ruined his career. Richard was just screwed by the gods.
I'm no Cubs or Kerry Wood fan by any means, but this has to be one of the best moments I've seen in a baseball game in a while:
