Kevin Steele Named DC at Auburn

Gus was hurting for somebody he could sell as competent, even though Steele isn't. He just has a bunch of buddies in the coaching fraternity. Good move by Steele to get out of Baton Rouge with that situation. But the winner is Les Miles. He gets an opportunity to hire a better DC if he can sell the situation is now stabilized. Cameron needs to go as well. Terrible play caller and not a good recruiter.

Kevin Steele: Falling into major college coaching positions since the 90's. It's unbelievable.

He is almost Lane Kiffin like in his ability to suck and then fall into another plum job.

I don't think Cam Cameron is the problem. He was pretty decent in the NFL and now just looks inept. I would say it has more to do with Miles' style of ugly football.

Well he was making 1 million per year at LSU. Auburn was paying Muschamp 1.6 million a year. Steele owes LSU a 500,000 buyout so I would say he is probably getting 1.3 to 1.5 to go to Auburn. Which is an extreme overpay.
Muschamp I could see 1.6 for DC but not Kevin Steele and not even close.

He may have been asked to look around or encouraged

I don't think he was asked, but from what I was told LSU wasn't going to counter despite the rumors. Overall, this works out fairly well for LSU depending on who the hire, Coach O might be promoted within but not sure he wants it.

I would say Steele saved face with the last two games, but to me those were against some of the easiest teams (Texas AM and Texas Tech) to scheme against. Arguably LSU's worse defense since the late 90s, not going to say its all his fault or anything as depth was a real issue for sure. Other than getting to the QB, I would say the defense was noticeable worse in just about all areas.

Some of the names going around as replacements.

- Co-OC Coach O and Raymond
- Pelini
- Pendergast
- Venables
- Aranda

To be honest, I would say all these options appears very good, I like Pendergast the most as I think he could then develop into a coach in waiting situation, Aranda is interesting as well. Venables is probably not going to happen.
