Here we are again, after our worst outing of the season. Villanova had the veteran guys who just knew how to play away from home, as well as against solid competition and it showed. (They should've won @UCLA) That's possibly the best team on our schedule. Vols will look to rebound against another good team in UNC. A win here would be massive and a major positive for our season as 1-1 was always kind of the goal in Connecticut. (obviously 2-0 would've proven we were elite). UNC plays some solid transfers in Brady Manek (Oklahoma) and Dawson Garcia (Marquette). As well as returning guys like Caleb Love, RJ Davis and Armando Bacot.

UNC has another small rotation of 6/7 guys (Leaky Black did not play due to a "non covid illness" against Purdue. It remains to be seen if he plays against us. Regardless, this is their rotation used according to Ken Pomery:
Caleb Love (6'4" 195) 85.6% of minutes
RJ Davis (6'0" 175) 71.9% of minutes
Brady Manek (6'9" 230) 67.5% of minutes
Dawson Garcia (6'11" 235) 63.8% of minutes
Kerwin Walton (6'5" 210) 63.8% of minutes
Armando Bacot (6'10" 240) 60.0% of minutes
Leaky Black (6'8" 200) 45.6% of minutes
They have two others that likely won't get minutes in todays game.

Keys to victory:
Defending Caleb Love will be the #1 priority. It's a must to stop him and I'm really not sure how we will do it, but he's not the same guy as Gillespie. As he is a score first kind of guy.

Defending the high ball screen with will play a major part in this game and I'm not very confident in our ball screen defense. Maybe we do a great job tomorrow, maybe we don't. If we don't we're in major trouble. Garcia is great at sliding to the corner when he's not the one setting the screen and knocking down the corner 3.

Purdue created turnovers off active hands in the driving lanes and that's going to be something we have to capitalize on if we want to turn UNC over.

Our guards just have to be better. Chandler -6, Vescovi -14, JJJ -9, Bailey -20, Powell -12.

Overall nobody on our team but Brandon Huntley-Hatfeild was better than neutral in +/-. We have to play better today and I personally am not sure we will. This team will have to prove themselves if they don't want to drop out of the AP poll. I'm going to say the final score is UNC 77 Tennessee 64. Maybe Rick and the guys prove me wrong, and I hope they do. Let's just hope we have some more will and intensity today. Go Vols.

Too bad VN done run off JJJ. He’d be a good ‘un to put on Caleb Love.

Over/under on how many minutes before the refs put Fulk on the bench with his second foul? Same with KC. Roy might be gone but the blood still runs blue.
As much as that may possibly true, I think us playing a game that doesn't seem our entire team is on its heels the entire time will result in a very close game or a win.

I doubt that they can simply walk on the court and intimidate our guys. Most may not even know who Dean Smith is or that he coached MJ.

Just referring to how we played against Nova. They were the aggressor and had us on our heels 80% of the game

I’m not disagreeing. I think that the Saturday game might have been too big of a stage for our young players… it sounded like a home game for Villanova. I’m most disappointed with the upperclassmen. ORN had zero points. Bailey shut it down. JJJ’s shooting was horrendous. I barely even noticed that Fulk was in the game. I expect a much better effort today. I hope that Fulk and/or BHH can defend Garcia. Maybe ORN will step up but maybe he will be matched up with one of the heavier dudes. It would be great to see Mashack emerge, but he hasn’t seen many minutes so far. Hopefully one of the less visible newbies has a coming out party. Perhaps TN will have a slight advantage with UNC having a shorter rotation and it’s the 2nd game in two days.

It’s simple! Don’t shoot 20% in a half and go 1-9 from 3’s. Defense wasn’t bad, but the offense was terrible last game.

It’s another game that we will get very few close calls go our way. Obviously, the key to the game is to not shoot 15% from 3 again or we have no chance.

Chandler, James, and Fulky have to play better. Pretty simple. They looked like D3 players out there yesterday. If they can get their act together, I like our chances.

Why would VN ever run off JJJ? Oh, that's right, the 5 star didn't show up again for a big game. 2 points, 1 for 8 from the field.

Just couldn't buy a bucket in the first 10 minutes. Lid on the basket. That won't happen very often with this team. They were just too uptight. This experience should help them with that in the future. We won the 2nd half 38-36.

I think folks got too caught up in Chandler's ability. He's certainly talented and will likely be special once he matures and gains experience but it's a big jump from HS to Villanova. Fulky hasn't gotten back into form from his layoff. HH has all world potential but he's just turned 18. We might have some shooters but you get a defender in a face and it's gonna make life tough especially for such a young team. We need to remember that it's not how you start but how you finish in March.

Sadly the young 5 stars will likely bolt to the NBA so we won't have the joy of seeing them developed and playing for UT. Just try to enjoy what they are now and the moments they provide this year.

Yeah, I was concerned the freshmen weren't ready for this stage. I didn't get to see the game, but it seems that I was right.

It will be interesting to see if they can bounce back. My guess is that they will. A veteran team in our first away game was probably a perfect storm. I think we will be fine. Should be a good game.

Will be interesting to see how we play Garcia and Manek. Garcia will be an issue for obvious reasons, but manek’s combo of size and perimeter play could give us some problems too.

We need Chandler and HH to both mature very quickly. My fear is that HH won't take to being a presence in the paint like we need and he goes the way of our 2 five star guys last year. Never reached their potential here but will in the NBA in a few years. Chandler will likely be a helluva point by seasons end and I'll have a tear in my eye when he declares for the draft. We really need a rule that kids who want to go pro can do so out of HS and if you sign with a program, you're committed to at least 3 years. I really like having the talent of a 5 star but it never really gives us much more than a little taste of what could have been. I'm starting to want more 3 and 4 star types who'll stick around for a few years.

I think we would do well to try to stay in the top 30-100 range. Yes, some would leave early, but not nearly as many.

Play two Freshmen point guards at the same time and turn Fulky lose. Everyone played much better today.

I'm sure you projected us to lose by double digits to Nova, then win by DD at N.C.
Vol fan for many years. Not dumb enough to bet on one of the most inconsistent teams in the SEC.

Betting is not for everyone, anyway. But what does this mean? How does one loss equate to being inconsistent? Especially in the first 4 games.
