KIFFIN COMMENTS ON TAM/JIMBO

Kiff is a good coach but his mouth is still a sophomore in highschool. His sideline interviews for example.
Grow up guy.

Too many "experts" see a #1 recruiting class and immediately expect big results. It rarely happens. There may be some leakage of that class but if I were the coach at Ole Miss, I'd watch my mouth........a&m is down now but they probably wont be long.

Many of those 5 stars either:

A) Had better coaches in HS
B) Played in regions that made them look like Greek Gods in HS, and then met the great collegiate level equalizer...playing the best of the best every week.
c) A&B

There's a fine line between a 5 star from timbuktu high school, and a 3 star from greater metro ATL. There's a radius of about 70 miles around downtown ATL that can supply quite a few rosters, supplemented by some awfully strong semi-rural schools throughout the state.

Ole Miss' historical disadvantage in recruiting is negated by the transfer portal.....

That will dry up some soon too. Ole Miss ain’t got the money to compete with the big boys.

Doesn't matter when there is recruiting caps. And if Ole Miss continues to trend up, they will also start to gain advantages. Jimbo has better resume than Sumlin but their records are basically identical. Not every program can hire the right coaches. A&M will also take big step back once Tejas and Oklahoma come into SEC.

This. I've always said a 3 star in a place like Florida (position depending of course) could go elsewhere in the country and put up 5 star numbers.

I'm a unique Vol fan IMO. Both my grandads were born and lived (ouside miltiary service) in Tennessee. Both grandmothers as well. And both parents. My entire existance is from a circle from cookeville to knoxville. Dad was from Jackson County, went to Gainesboro. mom was from Knoxville. Dad went to TnTech, UT for his MS, then UGA for PHd. Worked for UGA his entire career in Ag at the Experiment Station branch in Griffin. I was born and raised there. Left Griffin at 31 with my company and went to Hartwell, GA. All total spent roughly 48-49 years in GA. My tennessee ties as far as living here was the family place outside cookeville that has been in the family since the 1820's. I spent a lot of time in TN visiting grandparents. When I was in 8th grade, Willie Gault was a senior at my HS. I was just starting out runing track, and they would make us leave the track and sit on the hill when Willie and the other seniors came over for their practice. We "weren't worthy." So, when he chose UT, my grandpa, who was in KTown at that point having spent his post military engineering caeer (Navy CeeBee veteran during WWII) at the TVA, would clip and save every single UT and Willie Gault article from the KNS for me. I'd have all kinds of stuff to read when we went to visit. And I was a Willie Gault fanatic. Just a white boy sprinter that wanted to run like Wille. So, 1979 began my epic adventure as a die hard Vol fan. My dad's first loyalty remained to UGA as they put food on our table for 30 plus years. He was just that kind of guy, even though he was a TN native.

Having said all that, location has everything to do with recruiting stars, and a 3 star in GA, FL, TX will, more times than not, trump a 5* from AZ.

The irony in his statement is astonishing considering he did the same thing to us last year

They aren't going to be any different as long as the beav is their coach

My experience in baseball was the best players here could play with the best players there but there are just so many good players. Playing a good Florida team or East Cobb, you couldn’t tell a #3 hitter from their #8 or 9. That’s wasn’t the case with our teams usually.

Baseball is a little more evenly judged IMO. I think basketball and football is where the stars really start to shine when it comes state to state.

There's a school here in Georgia, gwinnett county, called Buford. They've won a lot of titles, gly around the country on occasion, and have had other teams come here to play. We jokingly call them the university of Buford, they put a lot of players in big schools. The few times I've watched them, they've played on ESPN, almost every starter is committed to a good school. Unfortunately, our school plays them, and gets spanked. I have girls, and they swim, so it doesn't bother me much 🤣

I'm from Griffin originally. In my day it was them, Valdosta, Colquitt, and a few select others. Griffin has put 54 players in the NFL, most notably Willie Gault and Jesse Tuggle. Top 3 in country I beleive in that respect. Fastest man in Ga came twice from Griffin. Also lived in Hartwell 16 years. Well aware of Buford. Grayson is no slouch either. Hart County has done well providing players for a 3A school. When I first moved there Thaxton signed with FSU at linebacker, but had a life threatening injury of some sort and never saw the field. The Leard brothers went to Auburn. One started at QB for a bit. Current RB at VT is Hart Cty. Pitcher at Clemson is Hart Co. TE at Notre Dame is Hart Co. THat kid had 21 D1 offers, 13 of them after his sophomore year. Several other current collegiate athletes from Hart Co., but I can't name them all. Kid from down the road in Elberton made it thru UGA and is with the Chiefs. Elbert Cty even has a kid at TnTech currently. All you have to do to see some good HS football on a friday night in GA is pull over at the next lit up stadium you see.

The Chiefs player you mentioned is Mecole Hardman. He is from a little town called Bowman which is northwest of Elberton. I drive through that area regularly. Fun fact, Elberton is known for it’s granite industry. The town has a number of factories that produce granite signs, monuments, and countertops.
