How does a referee blow a play dead and signal time-out in less than 1 second?

The side judge right there says you called timeout and you get to kick a 50-yard field goal and win the game.

Easy fix: stop letting coaches call timeouts (particularly, preemptive timeouts).

The one call that Kiffin did get screwed on was that holding call that is referenced in the article linked by the OP. They marked the 10 yards from the end of the run, rather than the spot of the hold. IDK that it would have helped stop Stanford from eventually scoring though.

It looked to me like the hold was near the end of the run. The flag was thrown by the ref in the endzone near the end of the play. I think they just announced the wrong number when calling the penalty.

Not positive though. Kiffin should have called a time out there if he though the balls was spotted 10 yards off.

Also, can someone explain to me how it's possible to call a time out when your player goes down in bounds with 1 second on the clock?

Kiffin is a loser. He has been at every level of coaching in his career. His adversity is ALWAYS someone else's fault.

He is a spoiled little boy crying every time he doesn't get his way. I will always enjoy watching his teams lose for the mess he created for our football program with his unprofessional behavior and exit.

It was about the only thing I had to smile about Saturday night. VFL...

Alright! Kiffin has fallen off the wagon and opened his pie hole again....Will be interesting to see how the NCAA feels about his mouth running again.

Id take Kiffin and his staff over ours any day of the week. if we got 9-4 with 3 arrest ill take that over 6-6 with 3 honor rolls
