We can't let a month slip by without a good Kiffin thread.
Kiffin, during a Wednesday interview with SiriusXM College Sports Nation, was asked whether he would talk to his assistants the same way Saban talked to him during his three-year tenure at Alabama.

His answer may have provided a little more insight into their relationship.

"No, that's not really how I do it. (Former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy) knows about those," Kiffin said. "Those things come up, and everybody has different ways of dealing with them. It's just not really how I do it. I'm not really big on humiliating assistant coaches in front of everybody. I write down notes. In the staff meeting, I explain what we want to get done."

Nobody tried harder to reinvent the offensive wheel than Kiffin. Nobody enjoyed the butt chewing more than the defensive players in practice. All in all, a good time was had by all, except Kiffin, apparently.

Did Saban bring in Kiffin to let him to his thing, or did Saban bring in Kiffin for the specific purpose of running a particular offense? Particularly last year, where they ran more spread-type concepts that Saban traditionally is more uncomfortable with.

Both. Kiffin was not the master of the read-option when he came to Bama. He and Saban agreed it was time to take better advantage of the college rules. Coach Saban gave Kiffin a lot of leeway in his control as he does with other coaches on his staff. But I think it's also safe to say that no HC says quality control like coach Saban.

Saban is a winner. Kiffin is not. If I were Kiffin I would've taken notes.

Both are winners. Kiffin has done it without Saban. Saban has done it without Kiffin. Kiffin just isn't meant to be a head coach, and that's fine. But anyone who wouldn't take Kiffin as their OC is a fool.

Do you remember Reggie Bush and the part Kiffin played in the Heisman embarrassment?
