Kiffin to Ole Miss

He was at Bama. He was at USC AFTER a major scandal and players getting paid..... this notion that he’s guaranteed to break NCAA rules because of secondary violations during a single season 10 years ago is hilarious.

FYP

Kiffin had the same roster Fulmer sucked with the year before...
a terrible QB
slow LBs
and Eric Berry.
He got more out of them than Fulmer ever did.
Pretty bad take to suggest Lane Kiffin is anywhere close to the level of coach Phil Fulmer was.

I’d be shocked if he brought more than 2 coaches from FAU. I’d try to build an all-star staff again, though I doubt Ole Miss will spend as much on it as we did.

His “all star” staff was his dad and friends. It’s not like he has a gang of awesome coaches just waiting to follow him around. There is a reason Lance Thompson followed him to FAU, he just isn’t that great. Orgeron is a head coach, his dad is almost 80, Tee is here, Jim Chaney isn’t going, Charlie Baggett isn’t coaching anyone, Frank Wilson just got fired so he may come, and James Cregg isn’t leaving LSU for Ole Miss. I guess he can bring his brother and Randy Shannon

If every Tennessee fan you know thinks Lane Kiffin leaving in (gasp!) January after a year made us nationally irrelevant for a full decade afterward, as opposed to things like hiring a coach who went 4-8 at Louisiana Tech, get smarter friends.

I get it. You're one of them smart guys that wanted to hire him back.

Haven't had as good a team as we did like that in a while either. Kiffin had a great roster and couldn't deliver half of what he promised, then he tried to burn the house down as he left.

Nothing you have said has changed anything I said. Kiffin underarchieved and then screwed us over.

We've had several better rosters than 2009 since then. Dooley had one in 2012 and went 4-7 with it anyway.

It doesn't take a genius IQ to figure out that us sucking in 2019 has nothing to do with Lane Kiffin, which is why I suggested getting smarter friends

Literally everything he posted was true
So was what I posted. I'm a Lane fan, but the suggestiong that he's a better coach than what Phil was is being pretty ignorant to all the other success Phil has had and all the failure Lane has had.

He hired a good staff. Wilson was a great hire for WR coach, Gran was a great hire for RBs, Kippy Brown was a good hire. Trying to reduce it to "Monte Kiffin and Lane's friend Ed Orgeron" is just disingenuous.

Okay, well if you agree with everything he said, then why pick a fight about something he didn't say at all?

Have we at least been charging him rent for that space?
You’re probably not a Texas/Red Dirt country fan, but to quote Evan Felker of the Turnpike Troubadours, “in my heart, you pay no rent, it don’t cost you nothing, not a single cent”

Charlie Baggett never coached for or with Kiffin, so i don’t know why you included him. But there are more than enough quality coaches to fill out his staff. Charlie Strong, Randy Shannon, Frank Wilson, Charlie Weis Jr, Kendall Briles, Al Harris, Monatrio Hardesty. Trust me, he’ll have no issue putting together a quality staff.

Not picking a fight scooter. He, you, me, anyone knows why he posted it and what he was suggesting by posting it.

I'll post it too. Our 2009 team was better coached than the team before it and it wasn't remotely close. Say whatever you want about their overall careers, but at that time it was a coaching upgrade and it was extremely obvious.

Sure, we couldn’t punch it in against UCLA. And Dexter McClustered all over us.
And the bowl game.
But it wasn’t just the W/L record.
Vols were a blocked FG away from beating eventual national champs Bammer.
#1 ranked FL struggled against us.
We hadn’t been that competitive against top ranked teams for a while before; and haven’t since.

You can’t be serious but you are. Jones “almost” beat Alabama and did beat Georgia/Florida. Is he in Kiffin’s league as a coach and he won at Cincinnati/Bowling Green? Kiffin was 7-5 in his only season at UT. The previous year’s team went 5-7 under Fulmer, and one of those losses was to a terrible Wyoming team at home after Fulmer was fired mid season but the team had quit. Had Fulmer not been fired the team would not have quit and lost to Wyoming which means they would have been 6-6 with a chance to get to 7 wins in a bowl game. You do realize that UT was an Eric Ainge interception away from beating LSU in Atlanta the year before? Keep deifying Kiffin though

Eddie Gran hated Kiffin and left. He isn’t leaving UK as an OC to join Kiffin. Kippy Brown was a great coach who was from Tennessee and had already coached at UT twice. He is also out of coaching.

You're making this sound much harder than it is. Kiffin didn't have a connection to Gran, but still got him to leave Auburn for Tennessee. There are good assistants all over the country and it won't be difficult for him to get them on staff, as he has on multiple occasions.

The "more" that Lane got out of Phil's roster was 2 games and a pathetic effort in bowl game. And nobody can make me believe the team didn't lay down the Wyoming game. Basically, a 1 game improvement.

Kiffin had the benefit of a healthy for the first time ever Montario Hardesty too whereas Fulmer had injuries to Hardesty and Arian foster to deal with.

At least Lane left us with a stellar recruiting class that had zero attrition.

No doubt Phil let things slide and made a terrible hire at OC. It would have been interesting to see what he would have done with the OC position and to see if it turned back around with Tajh Boyd

I am not sure you are understanding? You are correct there are great assistant coaches all over the country but they aren’t waiting like adolescent girls by the phone hoping to get a call from Kiffin. I was referring to his “all star” staff notion and the idea that they are reuniting at Ole Miss as well as the notion that he has had an “all star” staff elsewhere. Wouldn’t logic suggest that he would also have one at SC and FAU? Other than his dad, Orgeron, and Cregg following him to SC, who he coached with at Oakland, what great staff has he assembled? He had a few friends he coached with or knew through his dad that has enamored this board. They aren’t coming to Ole Miss and haven’t coached with him in years.

That is correct, the entire trajectory of this program would have changed had UT not fired Fulmer and hired boy wonder who gutted the roster then brought in a bunch of idiots. He turned away several prospects who turned out to be great not just Tajh Boyd. This board is like an old man reminiscing his athletic prowess when it comes to Kiffin. The further we get from him, the better he was.

His ex-brother-in-law....probably available

The trajectory wouldn’t have changed. Plain and simply Fulmer was done. Two of his last three recruiting classes were ranked outside the top 25. Yes Boyd would have been good, but it’s not as if he would have had a lot to work with. The only mistake Hamilton made was hiring Kiffin instead of Gary Patterson or Brian Kelly.

And his 2009 class was going to be a Top 3 class. So much for being done!
