Kim Caldwell expecting a baby

Barring any complications I think we see a Pat Summit type attitude. She isn’t going to be able to stay away. Even if she’s not a full go for a game or two I’d almost guarantee she’s there unless she is literally in labor.

One of my favorite Pat anecdotes is her telling the pilot to make sure the plane was in Tennessee when Tyler was born. 😂

Yes. If a woman can give birth, well, coaching a basketball team is a piece of cake:

Terrific image! Maybe that is a gender reveal, in that the baby's shoe is pointing toward her.

Or maybe she's throwing her hubby under the bus by having the heel pointing at him!

Dang! Isn't that just like God to interrupt our brilliantly-conceived plans for life with... a lovingly-conceived new life?

Whatever effect this inevitably has on her coaching of this season's team, this will be a season in which her players will learn more about real life, more about being an adult, more about being a woman, than most players will get to learn over an entire college career.

As fans, while we naturally imagine the fullest potential for this season being presumably (but appropriately) diminished, it's also safe to presume that a lot of people are going be blessed over the following months in ways far, far more important than basketball.

--starting with us! With this news, our LVFL tribe will have our priorities shifted back into order-of-importance. I expect that this baby and mother will now be embraced by the prayers of tens of thousands of self-appointed, honorary, "aunts & uncles" and "nieces & nephews."

It's a good day to be a Vol!

Some might think that but there's zero reason for even a blip on the radar. Shouldn't make a bit of difference in game. They know the timetable well in advance, she is surrounded by assistants that know both her system and the SEC very well. I'm sure Kim's presence will be felt via zoom etc during her physical absence for a short while. Should mean nothing determental, and the team gets a little excitement and a unique emotional experience..

No matter what that baby’s sex, its first name must be Summitt.

Always a bitter pill because that’s how we know her but I think Pat would prefer to be remembered as a Head.

She had a lot of respect for her dad and after her divorce she seemed a little disenfranchised with the Summitt name, even though that’s the name she built women’s ball with.

Summitt would be a cute name though!

The curse of branding. Hard to beat the corporate synergy of a last name that is a homophone with a word meaning "the top." Too useful to get rid of. Bob Ross famously hated his Boss Ross hair but kept it, because it made selling inks and art materials infinitely easier and more lucrative.

So I imagine it would be with Pat. Whatever gets the job done better. Though in today's sports world, I'm not sure what "gets the job done" even entails.
