Remember Ron Mercer? I do and he didn't get in so good chance Kimbrow may not either. I don't know this kid and just wonder if anyone has info on whether or not he could even qualify for Vandy academically speaking. I hope we can get him some how, this kid should not have gotten by Dooley and company. Biggest recruit in the state should land at Vandy. If he is a bright kid and he does get in then good for him. I would just like to see him on our recruit commit list.

Qualifications are the same for all SEC schools. Dont think VU has made it any tougher for the athletes.

Billy Joe Wyatt had different rules than either Gee or Zeppos. If kimbrow wants to go there, he will get in. It's called peabody, the place where atheletes go.

I don't believe that's correct.

That doesn't mean a kid that qualifies at miss St also qualifies at vandy

Right. I dont think the coaches have the ability to accept questionable athletes cart blanche.

As much as I regret, even resent Vandy beating us out of this guy, I can't help but hope he qualifies and graduates from Vandy. It would be nice news indeed to see a Black youth earning a degree from a prestigious academic program. With so much negative news regarding this specific population it would be a welcome change. Now, if Vandy is smart, the coach would seek and they'd grant him a setup Vandy pre-preps recruit targets for academic success starting as far back as their HS freshman year. And have a follow up remedial and tutoring service . This creates loyalty and a message they desire not only their football skills but want them to academically succeed. That would be a difficult thing to overcome if they do it right.

Yeah it was very embarassing that kimbrow slipped by and very stupid on his part. Franklin is just blowing smoke and he's a fool if he thinks Vandy can compete

It is pretty easy to deny admission to somebody who isn't coming to your school.

Dont think VU has made it any tougher for the athletes.

Yes, they have.

vandy does make exceptions for athletes

They do make exceptions for athletes. This does not mean that the NCAA required minimum is the standard.

It's called peabody, the place where atheletes go.

It says something when the choice for questionable admissions is the #1 college of education in the country.

Cotton can you elaborate? What is their standard for athletes and when are they allowed exceptions?

Seriously, who cares about this kid at this point? He chose a school another school and that should be the end of it. Best of luck to him.

It is my understanding that the general rule is that they will make exceptions for a few athletes each year in cases where the prospect can reasonably be expected to graduate on time. Given their 93% graduation rate NCAA football grad rates at all-time high, but top schools falter - USATODAY.com , the difficult curriculum, and their lack of admitting athletes that subsequently do not qualify, I'd say they do a pretty good job of fulfilling that mandate.
