This is where I hate the guy. I think it's pretty stupid to try and sell the story that he's a bad coach at this point, but what a slimy move. The Braves are the South's team, not Georgia's. Almost everyone in Tennessee is a Braves fan.

Dude, seriously this is a stretch. And I LOATHE the puppies.

The Braves are huge in the Southeast because Ted Turner bought the team and baseball was cheap programming for his network. Most of us grew up listening to Skip Caray and Ernie Johnson do play by play as we did our homework.

Kirby is a tool who will find a way to screw things up-no doubt about that though.

Why do so many people in Alabama and Tennessee like the braves? I mean they are in Atlanta, Georgia last I checked. Myself I’m a Red Sox fan

Because they are starved for professional sports especially baseball. It's a tradition, much like UT sports, to support pro baseball from the days of the Southern League.

I think they are the most talented team in football and he would be at the top of my list of guys that could screw it up and not win a championship with them.

Man if he screws it up this year, it ain’t happening for him. I don’t just think they are the best right now, I think they are a mile above whoever is second best.

I agree, with a caveat. Their offense does not perform at a high level. A team like Bama if they could score points early is the type of thing that could beat them. Or another talented team that could get defensive or special teams scores early.

But yea, if he doesn’t do it this year he is truly a moron.

Missouri fans aren’t. They’re dirty cardinals fans. But yeah why would the Braves the first weekend after winning the WS want to hang out in Athens. Lol

Bama is still more talented on paper, they have a better QB too.

^This.
The Atlanta Braves are the closest MLB franchise for much of the Southeast. TBS broadcast professional baseball every day to many homes that otherwise wouldn't get to see televised baseball unless it was nationally broadcast game.
TBS made the Braves the team of the Southeast before the Marlins or Rays existed. And minus small pieces of geography in Florida, the Braves still are.

And I don’t like the Braves, I’m just answering the guy’s question

I would say West TN leans more towards the Cardinals. At most I think it's an even split. I would think the closer you get to the Mississippi River the more Red Birds fans you'd start to see.

Me? I hate em both. Cincinnati Reds fan here.

There are quite a few Reds fans in East TN. Cincy not too far away and converted a lot during the beg red machine years. But there no way it’s an even split in TN between Braves and Cardinals.

Reds fan here, too. The first MLB game I attended was a Reds game when I was in the 6th grade. Pete Rose got the hit record against the Padres in that game.

The Reds were just as close to Knoxville as the Braves were. And I got turned off by having the Braves shoved down our throat, when they were just a team from Atlanta to me.

In West TN it is. I live in the Memphis area. Around here I see more Cards fans. The more rural areas farther out might tilt more for the Braves, but I know there are a ton of Cards fans in my hometown a couple hours northeast of here.

Good point about the Cardinals. I wonder if any of the local West TN tv stations carried Cardinals games in the 80’s and 90’s. Parts of Kentucky would probably fall under the Cardinals and Reds footprints. The Braves were the team I was able to watch nightly when I was growing up in East TN and that’s why I’m still a Braves fan.

The map golfballs posted seems to be right in line with that idea. Looks like West TN and West KY are firmly planted in the Cardinals viewing area.

I grew up in Northwest TN. We also got a lot of Reds games on our Fox Sports station when I was growing up (probably in between Cards games). That's how I ended up liking them.
