KISS End of the Road Tour

I have a strange fondness for KISS. Not so much their music. I only like a handful of their songs. Mostly from comic books. I always remembered when I would find a cool 70’s comic as kid and there would be ads for their merch. Years later when I worked at a comic shop they had launched a new book from McFarlane studios and it was actually a pretty decent book. Around the the same time a girl I knew worked at a smoke shop and they had a tie dyed Kiss shirt that was the art from the Destroyer album. I loved it because I had never seen something so outlandish. She ended up getting it for me for Christmas and I still have it’s tattered remains in my drawer.

I've seen them several times. I'm not going this go round. It's seems like they've been on a farewell tour for more than a decade.

I've been a fan since 1977, when I was 8.

I'm still kicking myself for not seeing the reunion tour! At that time I was so far removed from KISS or music in general, I didnt even know it was happening! Once i realized they had reunited it was over. I immediately went out and bought the Second Coming DVD, which documents that whole era. That is an awesome DVD btw.

I just got Iron Maiden tickets for Nashville in August! I'm equally excited to see them as well!

Reunion tour was amazing. Never thought they would ever get back together. When they announced it, I bought tickets that day. Just a chance to see the original guys was a dream come true for me.

Kiss was very good at marketing. All I got to say about that.

Yeah, I know what you're "saying."

Look, KISS may not be for everyone. I get that. But if you think they're success is based solely on marketing you are seriously misinformed. If it was based solely on hype and marketing, they would have permanently fizzled out back in the 70's the way a lot of bands did. But you can't just dismiss a 45 year sustained career, 100 million albums sold, a RNR Hall of Fame induction, and countless musicians that KISS inspired as being nothing more than marketing. You need to look much deeper into their musical catalogue beyond Rock and Roll All Nite and Beth. There's a lot great music in their catalogue.

KISS wasn't my cup of tea, but I'll agree that the long career is impressive. However, I respect the marketing and business sense of the group which may be the best of any group ever. Not their managers, but the band members drove the marketing and for that, they get a salute.
