I'm being drug by the wife and kids to Dollywood kicking and screaming. I don't want to get in the middle of the tourist mecca of Pigeon Forge/ Gatlinburg but I lost the battle.

Can someone recommend a great hotel to stay at somewhere between downtown and the park? I haven't been to Knoxville in 18 years. Haven't had to stay the night in a lot more years than that.

I'm checking out the Knoxville restaurant thread so I'm good to go on places to eat. Would love some recommendations on where to stay.

Have you checked Wilderness of the smokies. Outside of the tourist section yet wouldn't be far from Dollywood. Has an indoor and outdoor waterpark. Restaurants and bars in the resort so you wouldn't have to leave but for Dollywood.

Get a little cabin somewhere off of Wears Valley Rd. Sorry about Dollywood, I refuse to do that place myself.

Invite a friend of your wife's to go in your place and stay home. Then everybody can have a good time.

Dollywood has its own hotel now, very nice and it has a bar.

What's wrong with it?

And don't say "Crowds" and "Lines" and "Overpriced food", these are common in any theme park.
It's a theme parj .... Nothing about it is appealing to me. Not a big fan of much in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area.

I didn't stay in it but my sister did a few weeks ago. We went over there to swim. It's really nice. I think the cheapest room is $250/night though.

Half of my family stayed in it and liked it. I bowed right out of that trip. It isn't just DW though, I don't do theme parks period.

I can already feel the fight brewing when I refuse to go to Disney World, but it's coming and I ain't going!

I haven't personally stayed overnight at many places in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area as I live in Knoxville so it makes more sense to just make day trips and drive home.

The Courtyard Marriott in Pigeon Forge based on Tripadvisor reviews seems to be one of the best places to stay. It is brand new as it opened in the fall of last year.

I've never seen so many people happy about a hotel, you pretty much have to dig through the pages to find the negative reviews of this place.

It's a little higher priced than some other choices though. It all depends on your budget, how long the stay is, and when you are traveling. I'd recommend checking out Tripadvisor and read some of the reviews when you find one in your budget or one you might consider. If theme parks and traveling aren't your thing then consider treating yourself to nicer accommodations and a good nights sleep.

How many are traveling? Do you want more of a hotel set-up or condo? We have been staying at the Baskins Creek condos just as you get into gburg. Always clean, 2 bed/2 bath (1K/2Q) full kitchen/lr/dining room.

Sound advice. This is what I went with. Thanks all for the help.
