Ky Basketball -- Rumors

My crazy UK friends back home have Billy "Pitino" Donovon signing a lifetime contract with the Cats..................

I think he would be crazy to leave Kentucky unless the money was alot better. I personally see him doing what Bob Knight did at TX Tech. He was a legend at Indiana and then he went to Texas Tech (of course he had to leave Indiana) and was good at TTU for a couple of years but is starting to go down hill. I see Tubby doing sort of the same thing.

There was an article in the Lexington paper today talking about how slowly changes are being made. I personally expected things to be moving around here by now, much like the UT football program moved after a 5-6 season. I wouldn't be shocked if both rumors were true. Tubby has an affinity for NC. However, he may end up in the pros with the Bobcats.

I would bet on the Bobcats before the Wolfpack...............

Then Pitino Jr. can come save the UK program!

well i first thought it was because he was black, but since he hasn't been back to the final four since 98 they really turned on him. my uncle is a diehard kentucky fan, but he didn't even watch them this year. he is convinced they will never be good again untill tubby is gone. like i said they really hate him.

From my experiences with my friends and my own personal interest with UK my friends and I find his style of basketball lethargic compared to the Pitino system.

Also his recruits have been less than stellar.

Press and shoot 3's dang it!

Im in Raleigh and this tubby thing is far from the truth. Heck 4 coaches have turned down state and they are back to square 1. The crazy rumor now is Rick Barnes to Ky and Tubby to NC state. That is laughable.

I thought Reggie Hanson's job wasn't safe, but I saw him jogging around campus the other day in full UK gear. As for NCSU, perhaps coaches are scared of having lofty expectations despite competing head-to-head with Duke and UNC. Just a thought.

Well i've lived in KY all my life and I've NEVER been a UK fan. I grew up supporting the orange and white. However, it would be a great thing for UK if tubby calls it quits and goes elsewhere. I know a lot of UK fans would be more than happy to see him leave. But my question is...when should all the coaching changes happen? Soon?

Bobby Knight's career at Indiana >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Tubby Smith's career at Kentucky

i watched them play quite a bit last year. it is a real possibility. sometimes he didn't even look like should be playing college ball.

He was definitely lethargic at times. He was one of the starters that Tubby benched late in the year. People up here complained about him all season.

I still get the feeling that something large is going to break from the office in Lexington, and the Internet message boards are rife with every blowhard's vitriolic opinion on what will/should happen.

I think that Tubby's cryptic "changes will be made" comments are being interpreted as everything from cleaning house on the coaching staff to "watching more film" during the summer.

No matter what, if Tubby allows the Summer to pass without making big changes, the fans will cry BS and 2006-7 will be even uglier from a fan's perspective. Somehow, large-scale changes need to happen to turn it around, because I don't see how "watching more film" will lead the Cats to surpass Florida with all their returning starters and Tennessee with their sterling recruiting class.

For me, I'll be honest to say that I don't have an opinion on what Tubby's cryptic promise means. But I do know that in Tubby we have an excellent coach who had a ridiculous winning record in the SEC over the previous 5 years. He's a good coach. I just hope his $2 million a year isn't making him soft.

UK basketball fans are quite like UT football fans. We demand an elite team every year, and want to be in the running for a NC. Realistic? Probably not, but it's definitely time for Tubby to make a FF run.

all the talk is he hasn't been to the final four since 98. personally i think tubby is overated. a steller basketball school such as kentucky deserves better, they just can't have pearl.

I tend to agree that he is a bit overrated, but teams that listen to him generally win. I personally want to see Rick Majerus coach the Cats one day so I can go to the hotel bar and have some drinks with him.
