Our school lost to his Covington Catholic team in the second round of the KY 4A state playoffs, and he ate our lunch to the tune of 6 recs for 115 yds and 3 TDs. Pretty active defensive player, as well. Not sure he'd be more than "just a guy" on Tennessee's roster at either position, tbh.

I was shocked at how easily Boyle handled them in the state finals. Maybe I shouldn’t be because Boyle might be the best team in the state, regardless of classification. But Cov Cath never loses that bad.

Boyle Co. IS the best team in the state regardless of class, but 31-0 was surprising. In fact, Corbin (also 4A and lost to Boyle Co. 21-14 in the quarterfinals) is probably the second best team in the state regardless of class. 4A in Kentucky is just so loaded in contrast with the rest of the state. CovCath, Ashland Blazer, Paducah Tilghman...any of those could have won state in any other classification, probably.

Glad they did lose, they constantly beat up on NKY schools. Same with Beechwood

No way! My daughters are students there, now.

Such a unique HS setup. Like a super small college campus with 7 separate buildings. Was a real biatch when it was cold out!

Strong history for sports at Ashland. I graduated 20 years ago and we were churning out college athletes at that time. One area where they’ve missed the boat is keeping those athletes involved in some capacity.

Yeah, I believe it was the first of its kind when it was built.

Still a strong sports program in eastern KY.
•Won state in football in 2020. Lost in semifinals in 2022.
•Finished 2019-20 season 33-0 in basketball and was in Lexington for the Sweet 16 (which they'd likely have won) before the KHSAA canceled the event due to Covid.
•They have one kid who is currently a sophomore at Liberty playing basketball and started as a freshman and another who is committed to Liberty, now.

I moved here from Knoxville almost 14 years ago, so I'd venture to guess we know a lot of the same people from up here.

Probably. Hope he stays. Helluva DC. It'll be more evident next year and even more evident the following year if the current trend continues.

Banks was Penn States #1 Recruiter and #10 or 11 in the Big Ten the year we hired him. (Top 30 in the country). Also, Banks had a kid that was a walk-on and not the stereotypical DB because he was white and he was fast. Troy Apke was a walk-on that Banks developed and he was later drafted into the NFL in the 4th Round.
Banks was a solid coach for Penn State so I wouldn't be surprised.
