They're calling it a "strained tendon" at this point, but I wonder when we can expect to hear results of Serrano's MRI? I imagine it will be soon.

I know coach said the x-rays showed nothing major, but the MRI will tell us for sure.

I also thought it was interesting that Dave Serrano said that either Kyle or Andy Cox is likely to end up in the bullpen. You guys have any thoughts on that?

I'm not sure how I feel about this, one thing is for sure the pitching staff can't stand to take too many hits this spring and this would be a huge loss.

Frustrating I'm sure since coach took every step possible to protect Kyle's arm as a teenager so he would not need TJ surgery.

That's why I've got to believe it's something minor.

Geez, say it ain't so Joe...:thud: Hopefully, not serious, but still, it's...serious enough for an MRI. Andy to the bullpen? Don't quite understand that...why?

GO BIG ORANGE!

kyle won't be pitching for the remainder of the season. I'm not sure if he's out for the year all together, but his UCL is detached from the bone and his pitching days are over as a Vol. Next man up.

He's already had it done once. If it's an avulsion fracture, and depending on the size of the bone chip, he might be only looking at rehab for it. That said, with his God-given ability, if it is significant or caused additional structural damage, there's really no reason for him to rush back only to completely finish it off.

Speaking from experience, TJ surgery sucks big time. Hoping for the best for the young man if he has to go through it twice.

When (Dave) Serrano addressed the injury yesterday, he made it sound like the MRI was just a formality for peace of mind and expected Kyle back next week.

That truly sucks if true. Poor kid.

Supposed to be going for a second opinion either today or tomorrow...hoping for the best. Would be a big blow for the Vols.

Based on the first two outings I would be surprised if Warren isn't the Friday starter when the UCI series rolls around. I figured Cox would move to Saturday...that was until Monday.

If KS is going to be out any length of time, it's going to hurt. He's been a much better pitcher coming out of the pen so hearing CDS say that about him and Cox (also been good in relief/closer) wasn't really shocking to me. Hopefully Cox is just off to a slow start.

I hope this isn't true, prayers are with the Serrano family.

Where did you get this info and how confident are you in your source?

Add my prayers. So sad for such a talented young man.

Omni, I understand the confidentiality here and appreciate the info. I know several folks up there and had not heard this. Not casting dispersions on you but I hope your source is wrong on this!

Thanks again for sharing the news (even tho it's bad) with us.

I don't buy it. The kid's been through a well crafted regimen to avoid something exactly like this. He's really only been throwing breaking stuff for about 3 years.

Well this isn't good.

#Vols baseball coach Dave Serrano said junior pitcher Kyle Serrano is probably out for the season. Tough break there.

Dave Serrano said Kyle Serrano might need Tommy John surgery but not because of a torn ligament. Ligament pulled away from the bone. Ouch.

Looks like you were spot on. Hate it for for Kyle and for this team.

Quotes from Serrano:

“We got word last night, we got the results back, and it looks like we are going to lose Kyle for the season."

“There’s a pretty good chance he’s going to have to have surgery. We’re going to have a reevaluation on Monday, but unfortunately for him, unfortunately for this team — but his career is hot over here at Tennessee. He’ll come back and be at full strength next year.”

“It’s not a torn ligament. It’s not torn. We are going to get it reevaluated on Monday. It is the ligament but it’s not torn. I know that for a fact. But if he does have surgery it probably will be Tommy John but it’s not a torn ligament, it’s pulled away from the bone.”

“It’s part of life and he’s handled it really well.”

I'm hearing the ligament pulled away from the bone and has been that way for the last 2 years.

That may explain a lot. Very good fit a few innings then suddenly "lose it"

What's amazing is RA Dickey lacks this ligament completely in his throwing elbow due to some apparent genetic anomaly.

Dammit....can this university get a single break....in any sport?
