I chuckle every time I hear about people wailing about athletes "needing" to be paid.

You'll tell people that when trying to explain iPhones, clothes, etc (and explain that most of it is perfectly legal) and they won't believe you. They think there just has to be a shady bag man and under the table money involved.


Also, its a lovely use of Federal funds, but I don't want to poke that hornet's nest...

Maybe some of the non-athletes that are working their way through school are struggling but these athletes have it made. If life was so hard for the athletes tell them to try to make it without a scholarship.

are you kidding me? you think the scholarship gives them all kinds of money? i know for a fact that the last month/month and a half of the semester the "food money" from the scholarship runs extremely thin. here's the thing the if you play one of the bigger sports at a school then its very rare you will have a job outside of that during the school year. there's not enough time for a job. i take it that you are speaking from experience when it comes to being a student athlete

Yep. I saw this first hand at UT in the mid 90's except it was CD's and keg parties. We had some of our best parties at country oaks and green tree apts with pell $. Good times!
