I noticed you hate everything purple and gold. I got to meet this kid's family 3 or 4 years ago at the SEC BB Tourney. Great family. IT was sad when he passed away. BTW, the LSU baseball team is made up of top notch kids. Since the Vols don't get here very often, my son and I pull for the Tigers.

You know what, bvf, in your title, you said gotta a. I did the same thing the other day. I said gotta a, just like you did.

Isn't it amazing how great minds think alike, or at least share similar cerebral nuances?

By the way, man, what's the story on this kid who wore the #31?

You guys are gonna be getting Jason Ogata at shortstop there, soon. Two-time Oregon player of the year, and I hear he's on the biggest scholarship LSU can offer any person for baseball. He lives in the next town over, goes to Southridge High School.

#31 was Wally Pontiff. He was a sophomore short stop. I believe he died in 2001 or 2002 from a heart malfunction. No one knew he had a heart problem. He died in his sleep.

The following year, LSU had to win the regional game at the box in order to get to Omaha. In the last inning, a player from the other team hit a shot that everyone knew was going over the fence for a home run. Out of nowhere, a gust of wind blew the ball back in the park. The entire stadium said it was the gohst of Wally Pontiff.

BTW, his parents were awesome (or did I say that already). If nothing else, the LSU players are classy guys. The fans that trvel here every year are fantastic. Man, tailgate with them for boudin, mudbugs and some Abita or Dixie. YeeeHaaa
