Does anybody know if the Lady Vols have ever had a walk on policy for their team. I know the man's football and man's basketball team does accept walk-ons but does Pat Summitt, if so I have never heard of one.

Do not know. But what ever Pat wants to do i think it's working. What does she have as Lady Vols coach 8 NCAA championships.

She invited a team manager to walk-on her senior year a couple of years ago. Other than that, I know of no other recent LV walk-ons.

There were 2 local kids in the late 90's/early 2000's. Both had fairly productive HS careers and had options for smaller schools. Good enough to be extra bodies in practice. IIRC, both spent 3 years on the team before graduating early. One was headed to Med School and I forget the other.

Most kids would probably get a pretty rigorous workout that would be designed to run you off. Make it through that and maybe you get to become a practice player.

They always have a try-out, as every program at UT is required to do, but very rarely is anyone kept.

Pat had Elizabeth Curry move from manager to player a few years ago to give them enough to practice with after a couple of defections. She was not, as is commonly believed, a walk-on. She traded in her manger scholarship for a full athletic scholarship at the staff's request.

Yes, she has had walk-ons in the past. I remember a girl from Sevierville who walked on.

You guys can't forget about Coach Holly Warlick, she was a scholarship 400m Track star who walked on and became the greatest point guard to ever don a LV uniform. Go "Lady VOLS" and #4 Kamiko Williams!!

The past few years after winning back to back championships to me have been an absolute embarassment in every way possible (post season). If we don't start recruiting players that play at an All-American level in college, Uconn will pass our 8 championship mark, and UT's legacy. This crap the past 2 years isn't on par with what Tennessee women's basketball historically has been, and I along with many others are WAY beyond frustrated.

You've got to be kidding me. You lose 4.5 starters off of a National Championship team, replace them with a lineup of three freshmen, a sophomore and a senior and still manage to stay in the top 25, and that's an embarassment?

Then the next year, that team returns, has no seniors, loses their best post player after she can't rehab from an ACL, loses another post to brain surgery, only loses two games all season, then falls in the Sweet 16 because of a lack of post play? That's embarassing? You've got to be kidding me.

I'd like to know where these "many others" are that are "beyond frustrated." Most fans that are even remotely knowledgable about the game of basketball knew what the last two seasons were going to be like.

Last year's team far exceeded expectations, won both the SEC regular season and the SEC Tournament, and will be in the hunt for a National Championship this year. That's not embarassing. That's impressive.

Thanks. Good post. I've just gotten tired of responding to these types of posts. This year and the next few years are going to be awesome.

My first thought when I saw this. Her blazing down the court with the ball is what made me think..."Hey, some of these girls can play....and RUN!"
