Lady Vol Players Weigh In

Lady Vols players weigh in on Holly Warlick's firing

I think Massengill and Davis will be back at least. We'll have to see how other players react.

At this point why would you think anyone would leave... What did they come for in the first place? Holly or being a Lady Vol in a program that should be among the best. Or maybe the girls are now thinking "now we can do what we came here to do".
At least wait til the future coach is named before bailing.

Well heard that Collins might leave so there could be others. I know of the recruits Saunders is staying it seems and Horston is thinking about it. No word from Key.

Kids change their minds. Those leaving or changing recruitment likely not happy to begin with. If the right person comes in these players/recruits will be replaced with just as good or maybe better. The key is, it must be the right person.

If it is Walz may have some players in mind from his class at Louisville that want to join him here. I don't expect a lot of turnover but we could see a couple go which is fine with me if that is what they desire.

If their love for Holly is the sole reason they signed to play for Tennessee -- and I seriously doubt ANYone would sign to play for only one reason -- then the truth is that Holly will always be a Lady Vol whether she's on the sidelines or not. No need to leave.

In the coming years there will always be gatherings of former Lady Vols. They'll get together now and then to laugh and cry and tell stories about the old days and create new ones with the young players, and as one of the former players and coaches, Holly will be there to share the special times with her beloved sisters. These current players should know that while Holly may wish for a time to keep a respectful distance from the gym, I would imagine that her home and heart will ALWAYS be open to them.

As young women, what has happened is yet another lesson that they would do well to accept is merely a normal part of growing up. Sometimes people lose their jobs -- even Lady Vols -- and losing a job isn't the worst thing that can happen to anyone. Sometimes, in hindsight, we even realize that it was best.

Bottom line is that Holly isn't dead. Her legacy as a beloved hometown hero will come back into proper perspective sooner than she probably thinks, and we'll be seeing and hearing about how she is 100 percent behind the future coach and wants nothing but for the Tennessee Lady Vols to get back to winning championships again.

Much love to you, Holly Warlick. Thanks for all the fond memories, and I look forward to hearing about the wonderful things you'll be doing with your time in the future. You're a quality human being, and you'll always be special to the program and to all its fans.

Ohhhh, Mimi. If you truly are struggling to decide whether or not you can remain a part of the Lady Vol family, I want you to know that most mature fans understand why you are struggling, and are hoping with all their hearts that whatever decision you make will be one that ultimately brings you the happiness you deserve.

As a “well-seasoned” (errr, old) fan, I would like to gently suggest you to keep in mind that it’s often considered wise to hold off making major life decisions while in the early stages of grief, and watching a beloved mentor going through a heartbreaking career setback certainly qualifies as a major loss worthy of a period of grief.

And while you may or may not have the idea that if you stay to play for another coach that your decision would be some hard-and-fast indicator of your level of loyalty to Holly, please know that these intense feelings will soften with just a little more time to process them fully. Also know that Holly is a proud Lady Vol For Life, and so I cannot imagine any circumstance under which she would think any player would be better off getting their degree, or playing basketball, anywhere other than the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Holly will need a little time away while she makes the adjustment to her new role as “the Matriarch of the Lady Vols” now that Pat is gone, but trust me, her wounds will heal and you will be proud to be a part of the exciting future that Holly herself will be proud of!

Bottom line: Try not to make any decisions anytime soon if you feel you can wait. And please know that the majority of mature fans will support you, and wish you nothing but your future success, no matter where you finish out your college career.

I’m just curious does anyone know off top who Rennia & Evina’s other school elections were other than us?

If they want to go....to hell with them, let them go. In this transition period, losing one or two players wont matter. Hell, if it's a quality coach, they may have a few players follow them. If the current girls want to go, dont let the door hit them in the ass on the way out.....we didnt need them anyways. We will recover just fine.

One of the reasons kids choose schools is bc of the system. I would expect quite a few to leave.

You must have a great sense of humor, because as far as anyone can tell Holly had no system. The current players we have looked like they were begging for just a little direction all season and they never got any. If Fulmer gets them a good coach I believe most of them will stay. They don’t want to be remembered as the players who jumped ship and completely let down the legacy. I think they truly want a shot to do something great at Tennessee again.

Okay, well you’re only fooling yourself if you believe no one or only one or two girls are going to leave. System/style of play is important, regardless if you think it is or not

If any of them were overly concerned with that they never would have attended Tennessee. I’m sure there is a chance 1 or 2 of them will leave, but I don’t believe it’ll be a mass exodus or it would be happening already.

If you hadn’t noticed, the best players seem to have wanted her gone just as much as most of the fans. To me that bodes well, they don’t want to leave, they wanted Holly to leave. If one or two of the freshman go it’ll be pretty easy to recover from. Especially if it’s Collins as the rumor mill is now spreading. We have two frontcourt players coming in and KK returning. I highly doubt KK will leave because her transfer stock would be very low. You have to realize that if any of them leave they are likely taking a downgrade from UT unless it’s Rennia or Evina.

Could understand a player putting the coach as the main priority if the coach is a legend with a top resume of wins, championships, helping players reach their potential, fairness, etc. Can't understand otherwise unless the player fears a reduced role or fears that the incoming coach will be worse.

Objectively speaking, the former doesn't apply. A solid hire should be encouraging to the player to stay unless they'd rather gamble on a "sure thing" of a current Top Ten program.

I believe there is a core group that needs to stay in order for the team not to be in rebuilding mode:

Westbrook
Horston
Green
Davis
Burrell
Kushkituah
Key

The rest of the players are nice to haves, but their loss can be mitigated if the above players stay. I would have put Collins up above, but it sounds like she's the biggest flight risk. Would like to keep Brown for depth, and Massengill as depth (and a project as the future PG), but their absences can be survived. The other freshmen and Kamera are obviously the ones that would be least disruptive to lose. Kamera is a big body for additional depth; the freshmen are unknown quantities and not expected to be immediate impact players.
