The future for the program is very bright with Russell and Reynolds on the way. The experience getting to the Elite Eight this season will serve them well in their fight back to the Final Four on a regular basis. Great things ahead for the LV's and Holly. I have been pleased with how she is handling her role as HC.

Mercedes is a absolute beast. She may be the missing cog in the powerhouse of Lady Vol BB.

The two most important positions for championships teams are a dominating center and an outstanding point guard. We just may have those in place during the next 2-3 years.

Lady Vols win it all in Nashville next year.

We should be good next year but I think Ct. has everyone back--they will be great. More important, the UT "whole" seldom equals the sum of the parts. Our parts are good, our whole is seldom as good as it should be. That's been an ongoing problem that I think has a lot to do with coaching. We clearly should have beaten Louisville and we botched it. We have lots of good players but we're often like a poorly maintained Mercedes--we clank around a lot and it's hard to beat the best teams, win the biggest games, that way. A lot will depend on the two new guards coming in. We need to play better defense, and in general need better play at guard. Massengale is talented, but can be a lot better than she is. She needs to get really fit and really commit to defense, to scoring more and to winning basketball.

My sense is that a large part of this has to do with a lack of an awesome half-court offense. It may be players but my sense that this has been the problem since 2001 makes me believe its coaching to some extent. I think we need someone new outside the Lady Vol program to bring a new perspective. It sort of reminds me of a great business organization that only promotes talent from within and never brings in any from its competition.

I halfway agree with you (mainly with the defense issues you raised), but remember L'ville also beat Baylor and Calf this time around. This goes deeper than coaching. The L'ville team came out totally inspired, wanting the wins more than the other teams and they won. I think Holly has done a great job coaching this year and getting the LVs as far as she has. I think next year will be even better.

The LVs have to get over having the jitters before and during games.
