Although I've been a avid fan and supporter of the Lady Vol basketball program since Pat came to UT, I've only been a casual one of other sports...

So some questions...

How is the Tennessee program perceived?

What are the best programs year in and year out...

Who is considered the best coaches in the college game...

What is the 'take' on the Weekly's...IE strong in developing players and recruiting week in game management, etc....

Any feedback will be appreciated...

Most coaches look like All Stars with awesome pitching. The Weekleys have awesome pitching at the moment. Tennessee's roster is flush with great players/students.

This Lady Vol Softball team might be the best the Weekly's and UT have seen! They are so much fun to watch.

This is Tennessee fourth trip to softball's Final Four in the past nine seasons and second trip to the finals.

I would say Tennessee's program is fairly well respected in the softball world. It was impressive how quickly the Weeklys developed this program out of nothing in just a few years. The 2007 senior class was amazing, and that class really put Tennessee on the softball map. Since 2005, Tennessee has consistently been ranked in the top 25. Usually the top 10.

Traditionally, the two best programs were UCLA and Arizona. Both squads have had problems with their pitching as of late, but for decades those two programs were dominating year in and year out.

The best coaches? A lot of people would say Mike Candrea at Arizona. His teams have won a ton of national championships and, until recently, were consistently at the WCWS. Candrea has had some bad luck in recent years with pitching (big injuries, issues with mechanics, and even academic eligibility). I think Candrea has also struggled with recruiting. He used to get his pick of the top players from the west coast, but now a lot of those kids are going to the SEC. Whether it be to Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, etc. Take your pick.

But I think the Weeklys are well respected too. They're certainly great recruiters.

During the Oklahoma-Washington broadcast, they said that there had been a Pac-10 team in the semifinal round of the WCWS for, I believe, the last 31 years. This reflects, no doubt, the aforementioned dominance of UCLA and Arizona.
