"After UT hit just 28.1 percent of its shots in a 58-48 women's basketball loss to Mississippi State on Saturday, the Lady Vols coach was prescribing extra shots before the NCAA tournament. In particular, she was favoring "contact layups."

"You have to shoot through contact," Warlick said Monday night during the WNML radio show "Lady Vol Illustrated." "We didn't do a good job of that down there."

Lady Vols back to work before NCAA tournament

If she means the coaches hold those big pads and hit the players with them while they try to make layups...

The offense has no fluidity, there is no timing, players are ready to make a pass before the receiver is ready to receive it, player movement isn't synchronized, players aren't prepared to catch a pass and don't know what to do with the ball once they do catch it, players don't know when to shoot and when not. The list is almost endless.

If the players start making layups, then that will help, if they start hitting outside shots, that will help. But...Holly's entire approach needs scrapped and rebuilt.

could be Jeff, but somebody has to make some of those open shots, they are there to be had, you've seen it in every game they have lost

and that isn't counting all the easy to make chip shots that have been missed too

Tell 'em, Mule. If you're recruited as a high caliber player, you shouldn't need coaching as to how to hit a lay up or a free throw. Or, any other shot you've made in the past.

I know Cooper was home in Powder Springs this weekend. She was at PetSmart with her new puppy and my wife talked to her while they were in line to check out.

Hitting shots solves all kinds of problems. But exhibit A against your POV is Holly's own "They come here already great offensive players we don't need to practice that" approach. I am not satisfied with how that approach has worked out this season and last.

I wish I hadn't clicked onto that link. Nothing new. Holly never takes responsibility. The same ole same ole. Defense and rebounding. Now she says the LVs must shoot thru contact. I've seen video after video of exactly that being done in practice.

Maybe Holly should have an offensive scheme to get players open to make shots? I'll be surprised if we make it to the sweet sixteen.

The best part to this upcoming tournament is which Tennessee team will show up and how far will they actually advance. Very intriguing. I know this much for sure I will not be disappointed or upset that they didn't make it far because I already know the reason why.

Fire Holly, NOW!:D

Which UT team will show up? We don't have a team that is good/very good some games and not so good other games. We have a team that's been mediocre/poor nearly all year, mostly because we are so bad offensively and do not score enough points to beat good teams. We did play a little better in the first two games of the SEC tourney--primarily because we cut down on our turnovers and shot a little better--but then returned to our dismal offensive play/terrible shooting in game three. And has someone said above, Warlick never seems to get it--never acknowledges just how deep the problems go. She is always sort of waving off UT's offensive issues with some casual remark about needed to practice shooting more or be more confident, as if it's not that important.

I totally agree. That's why I don't get frustrated with the players when they are standing around because they have no sets to run which leads to players trying to create and going one on one. The way Holly talk, if I didn't know any better, I swear that I'll think she is in her 1st season as a HC.

All these players that play guard for us have a long history of not being able to shoot the ball very well. If by some miracle they are become 45 to 50 percent shooters look for us in the final four if were not in UConn's bracket.

i do not believe you can make a great shooter out of someone like reynolds or carter that haven't shown the capacity in 3 or 4 years of practice and game action. sure they will have a double figure game once in a while but the majority of those points probably come from fastbreak layups or ft not from 15 to 20 footers!

I just do not know how to effectively respond to this statement other than say that it is just so preposterously wrong. No matter who you are or what profession you aspire to ,it takes hard work and practice at your craft to become better.....improvement does not come thru a magic wand ......it comes thru hard work and sweat no matter how much talent you have.

Isn't it a little unusual for players to be home for the weekend during this time? Not to be harsh but shouldn't they be at school practicing and getting ready for the most important part of their season? Do other schools let players go home during tournament time?

These young ladies have been through Hell this year. Now is most definitely a time for them to be around loved ones. They need a breath of fresh air and nothing is better than home cooked meals to may one feel loved and appreciated!

Congratulations! I knew there would be at least one. It's called spring break. Players do go home from time to time. I'll bet even those slackers at UCONN go home to see mom and dad. Maybe they should stay at school and work on their game since they suck so bad. I guarantee you if Te'a thought it would make a difference, she would have stayed and worked on her game. This girl is not lazy but everyone needs a breather sometimes so they can come back refreshed and make a hard push to the end.

Oh you don't get frustrated with a players dribbling with their head down when the defense applies any kind of pressure, or players picking up their dribble out beyond the 3 point line.

Hey Holly nice play calling, oh that turnover was so good, you called that right.

Oh that play no boxing out, or getting on the boards. oh that's my favorite,

Oh that play on dribbling from side to side beyond the three point line, that is our favorite play....

oh that play where each guard take turns dribbling for 25 seconds, then forcing a shot,...Holly you call that play a lil too much.

Oh, that play when the guards don't be literal and actually get to the basket, for paint points and shoot a brick or miss a lay up, or get to the free throw line and miss a free throw, Holly please stop calling that play, that's has been the second best play the second of half of the season.

Once the players take ownership, you'll see a different team, defense and rebounding win championships and big time games; oh yea and good guard play.

Here's to four consecutive games of solid guard play, Gooooo Lady Vols. I say, then I realize our guard situation....ugh! Go Reynolds, Carter, Middleton, Nared, DD, Cooper, Meme, two you will have to play well each nite, if they take away our posts, three. Yikes.

Since it is the tournament time, I shall call you BEASTSHAARA, instead of BoooooSHAARA.

Right now, young lady you are not looking draftable, here's is an opportunity to put together a stretch of solid performances, where you are recognize as one of the best players on the court, this is yo time to shine, if its in you, otherwise, free agency.

We need you to be a point forward, not a traditional back to the basket four this tournament, we need to board and attack off the dribble, here's to a great tournament, and four to five consecutive solid games, cos if you play like wing, you take pressure off our guards. Senior year, no regrets.

Orange Maniac, didn't mean to sound harsh by asking that question. Also don't live in Tennessee, so I didn't know it was spring break. Apologies to the players/coaches. Wasn't directing that specifically toward Te'a, asking in general.

Holly will you just take off your mask and reveal that it's you? How can I get frustrated when one noone on this board can verify what kind of Offense you want your players to run. Getting the ball inside is not an offense Holly and just playing hard without a strategy to attack offensively will the Lady Vols back at home watching the NCAA Tournament on the TV. Quick shooting the basketball, not getting the ball inside and not playing hard is not the only reason the Lady Vols have 13 looses. How about poor shooting, guard play, forcing the ball inside, poor spacing and movement on offense, no design sets to your team's strengths, no in game adjustments, poor substitutions patterns, no zone offense and probably some things I left off. Shouldn't you be motivating your team and finding ways to attack a zone instead of snooping on a forum? Anyways, please have the ladies ready to play Friday. We are tired of the excuses!
