:thud:Who is actually in charge of the LV offense? LSU threw up a zone defense close in because we have no consistent 3-point shooters. LV play offense with 3 players standing with the other two on the perimeter moving from side to side until the clock is gone and a shot that never has a chance. Why can't we have a moving offense? Watch UConn, they move constantly and wait for a mistake by the defense. LV lacks players with enough speed to dribble to the paint except for DeShields. Don't hope for a new coach as UT AD Hart absolutely cares less about any women UT sport and will not have the ability to select a good coach either.:eek:k:

Offense against a zone is pretty standard and appears to be completely unknown to the LVs coaching staff.
Three concepts:
1. Overload a zone so one player is trying to guard two players or two players are trying to defend three players.
2. Attack the spots between two zones so two defenders have to make a split second decision as to who covers the player at that border spot. And an third defender has to take responsibility for the rest unguarded area of the zone the defender has moved away from. The two most dangerous spots - the foul line and the short corners - both cause most zone defenses to break down.
3. Move the ball with passes and skip passes from side to side so the zone has to quickly readjust itself (dribbling is too slow as the zone just slides as the ball moves.)
And a final concept that is essential for all good offenses -
4. MOVE - constant coordinated movement by all offensive players forces constant coordinated movement by defenders which leads to mistakes in defense that can be exploited.

Zone defenses are designed to defend against dribble drives and standard ball screens which is about the extent of the TN offensive schemes I see displayed on a regular basis.

If anyone watched Sportscenter they would have seen Larry Brown's SMU team attack a zone as well as it could have been done. On one possessions they made 10 passes without one dribble and got a layup. Some folks on this thread have alluded to passing rather than dribbling. Dribbling the ball from side to side usually results in a desperation shot with the clock running down and that's what we have done repeatedly this year.

how about making some damn FF's? You make FF's at the end of the game you would have won 3-4 games that you ended up losing. :realmad:

We do have a very good 3 point shooter but the dreadful coach won't play her for any length of time.

:hi:There is news that Vanderbilt AD David Williams plans to review both basketball coaches as neither has performed this year. Apparently, Vanderbilt fans have really complained about Kevin Stallings and lack of performance in recent years. Although Vanderbilt is private and not required to furnish coach salaries, it was once reported that Melanie Balcomb was paid $2 million per year, far in access to Pat Summit. If this is so then it was to offer equal pay status to Kevin Stallings pay. Vanderbilt may end up hiring two new coaches.
