Praise to AJ and Anna Newell on speaking out against dave hart and his arbitray decision about Lady Vols (also pretty well proves he's a liar when considering his previous statements about this subject).

This is a brave step for AJ, a senior, but even more so for Anna, a freshman. AJ wrote, "Without a whisper about it among the female athletes, without a word about it at our bi weekly (Student Athletic Advisory Committee) meetings, without any consultation with us at all, you took away my purpose."

There's more to be read, but so much for the claim our Ladys wanted this change, knew of this change, supported this change. She is just one of many Lady Vols who has spoken out, but the important thing is this is a CURRENT Lady Vol, subject to the discipline and whims of the glorious AD. Which is why I said her sister, a freshman, is especially courageous to speak out.

Hopefully since the News Sentinel is now printing dissenting opinion, which has been there since the beginning of this fiasco, more people will now become aware of the situation and how it affects our Ladys.

So praise to the Newell sisters, and let's be sure their bravery does not cause hart or the athletic department to come down on them to make them pay for speaking out.

Go LADY Vols!

If Hart or anyone comes down on them it could get real dicey. Only see Hart being here until Bama calls.

GO VOLS!

They are VOLS first above all. I could care less if they use Lady VOLS or not and both my daughter's grew up being fans of the Lady Vols but if the University decides to drop the name Lady then so be it. VOLS IT IS FOR ME.

Drama much? Took away her purpose? Her purpose isn't to get a good education and play basketball for Tennessee, be a good teammate, contribute to society? Oh the humanity! Her purpose was ripped from her!

I certainly don't know all the ins and outs about how Hart went about this, and perhaps he could have handled it better.

But this is just overwrought drivel.

You absolutely missed the point. If Hart lied to everyone about how this was done then he's a liar. We can't have a liar as an Athletic Director.

Sure we can the rest of the power players in the NCAA do and they are doing really well

They should change it back to Lady Vols. Point blank.

Let the whole university be recognized by the power T. There is no objection to that. The Lady Vol name is tradition and history, and something that every Lady Vol I've spoken with has been in favor of keeping/bringing back. My wife is a former UT athlete, and she and her teammates and other Lady Vols from her time on The Hill agree that it should be Lady Vols.

The UT state outline logo that used to represent academic side of UT isn't something that people care about. The Lady Vols name and Lady Vols logo are.

If the women's basketball team can keep it, why not the rest? They're all obviously in favor of being called Lady Vols. Let the University be represented by the T and let the lady vols be called the Lady Vols and wear the Lady Vol T.

Thank you for speaking for her. You obviously know more about her and her situation than she does. Talk about drivel!

Whether Hart lied or not (I said I don't know), it was still overwrought drivel. Perhaps they should hold a sit in, or a march with signs against the man, or hold hands in a circle around Neyland stadium and gaze meaningfully at each other and sing kum by yah, or have a happy thoughts convention. Any of those would be on par with ridiculous statements like "you took away my purpose." And none of them would be "brave".

Over the course of my career, I've been involved with several companies rebranding themselves. Those who were involved were very zealous about the results. And from my perspective, the cost associated with rebranding is over the top.

I would imagine that large corporations and institutions, such as UT, spend huge amounts of money for that minute special brand.

I think all can agree that the Power T represents all Vol sports.

At the same time, I believe that "Lady Vols" is a unique brand in college sports. Very few, and I cannot think of another school, has immediate name recognition as the Lady Vols. Since Pat Head lead a group of young women out on the basketball court in 1974, Lady Vols has been a trademark for women's sports at UT. That's 40 years and. In my opinion, Lady Vols is as much of a Tennessee tradition as anything else.

Being the Vol homer that I am (obviously), I think Lady Vols is unique enough brand in college sports for UT to retain it to represent all women's sports at UT. It seems to me that the UTAD recognized that removal of the name of Lady Vols from the women's basketball team would send VolNation into nuclear meltdown mode but VN could tolerate LV no longer being used to refer to other women's sports at UT.

If we want to use a litmus test for whether or not it is politically correct to differentiate between men and women's sports, I think that test ought to be the preference of the women who play sports at UT as opposed to what other colleges do. From what we are hearing, it appears there are women who feel strongly about retaining the LV designation for all women's sports.

Personally, I am for reinstatement of LV to identify all women's teams and think changing it was a bad idea.

Lady Vols is a brand. When I live in Arizona when someone brought up Lady Vols it was assumed to be the Women's basketball team. The whole country knows the Women's BB team as the Lady Vols. the Lady Vols earned this brand and no one should me messing with it, especially someone coming over from Alabama. Period!!!

Don't mess with the blue hairs who like their Lady Vols. This isn't the 1950s, people.

I don't have blue hair and I like my Lady Vols. It is a very cool brand and makes them distinct. Especially with the success that Pat had introducing that brand to the country. Everyone knows it. It is special. Why stupidly forego it?

I don't have a subscription.

Sandvol, this worked for me:

Googled Knoxville News Sentinel
In search bar entered 'Dan Fleser'
In drop box chose 'last week'
Clicked on box with Newell sisters/golf
Article came up.

Did not use any subscription etc., so I think you should be able to access too.

I realized what a scum bag hart was when he forced coach summitt into early retirement before she was ready. Her signed affidavit is all I need to know about how hart runs things at the university. Now if we could could get bill battle over here instead now that would be so much better.
