Lady Vols defeated Oklahoma tonight 3-1. Oklahoma's score came on a penalty kick goal as the result of a foul in the box that I didn't see.
I don't know how good Oklahoma's team is supposed to be, but the Lady Vols looked controlled and, frankly, looked to be a much better passing team than any team that I watched under Angie Kelly ( and I liked Angie as the coach). That said, I felt that they were a little out of sync on more than one occasion. They allowed Oklahoma to keep the ball in their offensive end for too much of the game and also seemed a little slower overall than the Oklahoma team. Good spacing and controlled passing can make up for a little of a deficit in team speed as we saw tonight.
This team is very young, consisting of 5 seniors, 6 juniors, 6 sophomores, and 13 freshmen (a number of whom saw action tonight). The upside of this team appears to be pretty high.
After checking, I found that the team is just outside the top 25 in the NSCAA rankings and 15 in the BennettRank. There is a large disparity in the polls. For example, there are three SEC teams ranked in the top 25 in the Top Drawer Soccer rankings, with Florida ranked just ahead of Texas A&M. In the Soccer America rankings Texas A&M was 16 and Florida 21. No other SEC team was listed. In the NSCAA rankings Florida is ranked 9th And Texas A&M 12th.
