I didn't get to watch, but listening to Mickey call the game, it was a physical battle. 49 total fouls. Officiating appeared inconsistent. You could hear the crowd loudly protesting many calls. Simmons got 3 fouls in the first 8 minutes and sat. She came back in the second half for a few minutes and fouled out. But, she finished with 10 points. We had 5 in double figures. Seems like AZ had a good plan against us, but Pat/coaches figured it all out towards the end of the 1st half. We threw away 10 perfectly good points by missing at the stripe. T/O's were much lower. Only 5 in the first half.

Just another feather in Pat's cap! She knows what to do in cases where the beter players need to step up and have them sit on the bench for a few minutes.

Was there.........my thoughts:

1. Pearl and Summitt both have a similar problem: free throws. Girls couldn't throw it in the ocean tonight form the line it seemed.

2. Simmons: Earned most of her fouls I thought. She couldn't have played that many minutes and fouled out. 2 or 3 on reach-ins she had no business doing. BUT, she was very aggressive on both sides of the ball and thats good to see, she just needs to keep herself in control. This girl is a game changer with her ball handling, ability to get to the basket and finish inside, and her speed. In second half caught a bomb from out of bounds play that I thought no way she catches up to it and she did, looked like Bray to Hunter. She is going to be another one of those special players.

3. Glory Johnson is a freakish athlete. No one could guard her inside one on one today. And she had a ton of boards.

4. Rough night for Angie offensively. Hit couple nice pull up J's and thats it. Couldn't get to the foul line or make a 3 today.

5. This team can be very physical and play some D when they want to. Pat doing an excellent job with changing D's and being very multiple. Tough man to man, 2-3 zone, 2-2-1 and 1-2-2 presses, and ball trapping in the half court, which really got to ASU.

6. Cain couldn't seem to catch the ball in the first half, don't know why. She just didn't seem that into the game. I don't think she played at all in the second half.

7. Team needs to improve offensively with moving the ball and creating for others. If they can become a good offensive team they can make a Championship run. The D will be there.

I was really impressed by the play of Glory Johnson and Kamiko Williams today. Glory was a force on the boards, and AZ couldn't keep Williams from driving the ball to the basket. In time Simmons will learn to let the game come to her instead of trying to force it to. Impressive game overall and glad to see the rest of the team step it up when your two leading scorers aren't getting their looks.
