Made the following bets:
* Vols win National Championship (40:1)
* Joe wins Heisman (25:1)
* Vols win SEC Championship (16:1)
* Vols win SEC East (4.5:1)
Small bets, honestly, but even amounts for each bet.
Do I really think we can win an NC? Sure. Probably not, but sure. Why not? College football is wacky. We might not have won the NC in '98 if it weren't for the miracle fumble by Arky.
Push comes to shove, I honestly think we have a legitimate shot at winning the SEC East. All comes down to the GA game. If we can beat the Dawgs at home, we could lose to Bama and still win our division. From head to toe, Georgia is still the better team talent-wise. But we're playing at home, and odds are it's gonna be crazy loud.
Heupel is an offensive genius. Defenses have yet to prove they can stop it. The last 2 seasons of Joe Milton listening and watching should pay dividends. It's his time.
We don't have the roster * power of the Dawgs, Bama or Ohio State's of the world right now, and our defense - particularly the secondary - is suspect. But our offense has proven it can pull out the close 52-49 games. It's ridiculous, but it is what it is.
Joe Milton *can* be as good as Hendon was or better. Our WRs that played in the Orange Bowl (Hyatt or Tillman were out) lit up an excellent Clemson team - and they're all back - plus Thornton. Squirrel will EXPLODE this season. RBs are back and even stronger. We got a ton of seniors on the squad with legitimate depth at most positions.
I remember back in '98... everyone was bummed that Peyton graduated and we "missed our chance". Nobody talked about us winning it all. But our defense was amazing - and Al Wilson wouldn't accept defeat. Today, the game is all about offense. 100%. And I think we have perhaps the brightest offensive mind in all of college football in Knoxville (thank you, Danny White).
It's gonna be a great year no matter what - with a ton of offensive fireworks.
See y'all in Nashville on Saturday... and January 8th in Houston. I already bought our plane tix. ;-)
