Landman

Can't believe there isn't a thread about this badass show! Anyone else watching it?

I'm watching it but I'm kinda hate-watching it. I couldn't stick with Yellowstone. Quit after one season. I've watched a couple episodes of Lioness. It's OK. I'm still here on Landman because it's BBT.

People love Sheridan, but I'm not there. Wind River was amazing. Sicario is one of my favorite movies. But the TV shows don't exactly work for me. IDK what it is...part of it is that it's over-dramatized. I know that most dramas are, but they're not supposed to feel that way.* Also, the dialog is over-written. Everybody always has the perfect quip and it takes me out of it. BBT can pull that off, but for other actors it's not that easy. The storylines and themes are fun, at least.

Like everything about the son's storyline. Multiple life-altering accidents witnessed in his first couple weeks on the job. There's gun play on the job and people tolerate it, even against the boss's son. He's been beaten half to death by co-workers. WTF is happening? LOL. It's so silly.

I love it. When wasting time watching crap on TV I like for it be everything Huff dislikes about the crap he watches.

What was that show 1883? Where Tim McGraw's character has like 3 different scuffles in the first 20 minutes on the same friggin day, and every time he ends up killing multiple men. It might as well be fairies and dragons at that point, but it's pretending to be real life, and I can't abide.

I loved that show too. The narrator's accent got on my nerves but I'm not as hard on TV shows as you are. Was it based on a true story? I didn't know that.

It's fiction, but I'm saying the events are so unrealistic that I can't buy in. The old west was wild, but nothing like Hollywood tends to portray it, and Sheridan goes the extra mile. By old west standards, McGraw had 3 lifetimes worth of violence in the first act of the first episode.

I know what you meant.

I seriously hope you're trolling me because that's some bull sheet. Lol.

From ChatGPT:

Historical Context

Despite these dangers, most Old West towns were relatively peaceful. Homicide rates in many western communities were comparable to or lower than modern urban areas. The myth of the violent frontier is partly a result of dime novels, Wild West shows, and Hollywood, which romanticized and dramatized the era.

No dude, I mean I don't want to waste several hours of my life watching a boring ass Western with little fights and gun slinging.

Hooked me first scene and enthralled ever since. Best show on television and the average episode better than any on Yellowstone. Clever and believable dialogue and plot. BBT gets better and better.

Sweet mercy

I've heard great things about it and it's got a great cast. Just never was interested in watching it. If I did I would probably enjoy it. I can enjoy both types if they're good. But my favorites are like Young Guns. 1883 and 1923 were good too. Lol.

To be clear, there is nothing wrong with fighting/shootouts in westerns. There is some of it in Deadwood and Lonesome Dove. The Young Guns get wronged and they go out looking for trouble. I can buy into the explanation of the violence. McGraw has 9 bodies (faulty memory, but it was aggressive, whatever it was) on him before we even get to his storyline, and he's not law or outlaw.

I've been hooked from the pilot on. I have to agree that BBT carries the show with his character. I need to catch up by watching Sundays episode. I've enjoyed it so far more than Yellowstone and I like Yellowstone.
