Soon, most will realize Al Davis is the problem at the Raiders. Davis is a big reason Kiffin went 5-15. Al Davis controls most of the draft picks. And, Davis has made a lot of bad draft picks in recent years. Al Davis was recently voted the worst owner in the NFL by Sports Illustrated !!!!!!!

Art Shell's Raiders went 54-38 from 89-94. Yet, his Raiders went 2-14 in 2006. Norv Turner's Raiders went 9-23 from 04-05. Yet, Turner's Chargers went 19-13 from 07-08. And, the Chargers lost in the playoffs in 2007 to the Patriots who lost to the Colts (Superbowl Champs). The Chargers lost to the Steelers this past year in the playoffs who won their sixth Superbowl.

A lot of Kiffin's 5-15 record seemed to have hinged on the defensive side of the ball. And, Al Davis making the draft picks for the team. Kiffin will not have those problems with the Vols. He will have his dad in charge of the D. And, he hired the best recruiting staff in the country!!!

Kiffin's offense improved dramatically in 2007 over the 2006 team. Then, it fell back off in 2008 after he left a quarter of the way into the season. Kiffin may or may have not told some lies while at the Raiders. But, numbers do not lie!!!!!!!

Attached are the NFL stats on the Raiders from 2006 to 2008. Look at the dramatic increase in yards per game rushing from 2006 to 2007. The offense improved 9 spots in total offense in one year!!! If, Kiffin and Cregg can do the same thing for the Vols, lookout!!!!!!! :dance2:

Not sure why this topic is being brought up now, or why it belongs in the "RECRUITING" forum...but yeah, Al Davis would win the worst owner of any sports franchise for the last 25yrs. And there's some stiff competition (Snyder/Redskins, Steinberg/Yankees are two that come to mind).

Effectively Kiffin had the title of HC, but the job of OC responsible for wins and losses. Kiffin was stuck with DC Rob Ryan, whom he had numerous open disagreements with, and Davis shielded Ryan and the defensive staff.
Davis sees himself as the Chief Head Coach as well as General Manager. He's the picture in the Dictionary next to the word "MicroManager." It's no way to run a business, a war, or sports team....not allowing your subordinates room and authority to do what they are delegated to do. Until he gets the hell out of the way, the Raiders will continue to suck until their roster is full of top 5 draft picks....even then, he will find a way to screw that up.

Seriously. How may times has this been brought up around here?

And, for the record, Shell went 2-14 in 2006 because his offensive system was straight out of the 70's. His OC was running a BED AND BREAKFAST for 14 years before he came back to football. The O-line had 3 different coaches telling them 3 different ways to block. That team was statistically the worst offensive team in the history of the NFL. The Defense almost scored more touchdowns than the offense! As a Raider fan, I love Art Shell to death, but there's a reason the man didn't get any kind of coaching gig after he left the Raiders in 94. If Kiffin didn't improve that offense, then something would be wrong with him.

And, for what it's worth:

1.) Even we Raider fans know that Al Davis is the problem. He's the majority owner, so there'e nothing anyone can do about it.
2.) Shell's team's in the late 80's and early 90's were loaded with talent. He should have made at least 1 Super Bowl.
3.) Turner's Chargers were already loaded with talent when he started coaching them. Schottenheimer had taken them to the playoffs for many years before Turner got there, and Turner was even the San Diego OC a couple of years before he became the HC.
4.) At least, in the last 25 years, the Raiders have had some sort of playoff success. I'd take Donald Sterling (and, before last year, Bill Bidwell) as the absolute worst owner in Sports over the last 25 years. Yes, yes, Ad is still bad, but at least he's not worst.

This is not about the Raiders. Most Vols don't give two craps about the pathetic Raiders. So, you need to get over yourself.

My point is Kiffin was in the process of improving an offense of a pathetic team. He had no idea how to run a defense. And, he didn't have the players he wanted. All things will be different with the Vols. Those are my points.

The Raiders info was just to prove the Raiders suck mainly due to Davis. And, Davis is the idiot, not Kiffin.
Which will be proven on the field this year.

Excuse me. But Nick Saban and whichever group of football coaches that he chooses to surround himself with is the best recruiting staff in the country.

It'll take a few years before that sinks in.

Nick Saban is twice the head coach Lane Kiffin is at this point. Lane Kiffin's staff still >>>> Saban's (HC not included). Let that sink in.

Pittsburgh Pirates have the worst ownership of all time. At least Al Davis was successful at some point in time.

You're still here? Guys...ignore this loser. I can't for the life of me understand why a Gator fan would travel to Knoxville, and hangout outside Neyland stadium, year round, just to stir up trouble. Don't you Gators have your own stadium?...and in this case, your own forum?

Just shows what a low life, classless group of people you gator fans are...

Guys...don't feed the troll. That's all this loser is. Can't stand his own board...he'd rather hang out here and try to stir up trouble. Just hit the "Report" button to send him back to the cesspool/swamp.
