Larry McClure, founder and part owner of Morgan-McClure Motorsports, which entered the #4 car for 18 years in Sprint Cup, has been indicted on charges of tax evasion and fraud by the federal govt.
The main count involves leasing race cars to a Person A in Alabama for competing in ARCA races. The income of $350,000 was not reported on McClure's income tax returns. Shortly after Person A was interviewed by IRS agents, McClure met with him, and McClure's wife wrote a check to him for $350,000 denoted as "payment on loan".
When questioned about the payment, McClure claimed it was repayment of a loan that Person A made when the race team lost it's sponsorship from Kodak. This resulted in other charges of fraud and lying to a Federal Agent.
The maximum prison sentence could be 115 years, and potential fines could be $1.5 Million.
