Do you have any stats on how many of those 4 and 5 star players didn't pan out? How about how many 3 star players are in the NFL?

I'll have to up load documents to google docs.

I have NFL drafts with several years of the high school stars given to players drafted.

I have Rivals top 100-250 lists from 2002 through 2012 with what happened to each in college or if drafted.

I have each BCS schools signing classes from 2002 through 2012 and what happened with each player they signed.

The % of players who are 4 and 5 star recruits that make an NFL roster is far greater than the % of 3 star players who end up in the league. The raw numbers may show more 3 star guys make it but there are heck of a lot more players rated as 3 stars coming out of high school than 4's and 5's.

I agree with this..

from 2002-2009 rivals had the following numbers..

312 five star players (1% of total)

2669 four star players (10%)

7337 three star players (26%)

17384 two star players (63%)

This is something that has really bothered me about our coaches pledge to recruit in state... according to this and a general consensus about recruiting we are making a pledge to do average to slightly above average recruiting not exactly what we need to become relevant again...maybe it's good recruiting grounds for cincy but not for any team that wants to be a national championship contender.. and yeah you can make a (at best weak) argument about coaching up talent but the bottom line is everyone cannot be an exception to the rule and the best recruiters are usually the most successful

I think you missed the hole point. He's not saying he's going tore recruit only Tenn kids he saying he's not going to let other schools come in and steal the 5-10 best kids like they have been. Orr and Willis both instate kids we let go later in Phil's career. Kiffin focused more on big star kids from other states like Brown who really didn't have a love for the University but for their coaching staff. Dooley let the number 1 kid go out of state each of his years he recruited and last year I believe he lost out to Kiffin and USC.

I will say that I think soon the quality of High school football in state will drastically improve. You are starting to see former Titans player getting involved in coaching and teaching. Tennessee has 3 or 4 teams ranked in the top 50 in the nation or close to it. To be honest with Vandy getting a decent coach he may even start to help develop the mid ten area with coaching clinics and more attractive football camps for players. We won't be the new Georgia but I feel like instate talent will be more abundant than before

The in-state recruit thing is always a bit over-emphasized. Atlanta is closer to Knoxville than Memphis.

All the same, very good info. I'd like to see North Carolina and Virginia, as well.
